WSOP to Hold Bracelet Ceremonies
Bracelet winners will get added exposure starting this year at the 2009 WSOP. Each day, there will be a “Bracelet Ceremony” each day at 2:20 to present a bracelet to those that won one in the prior day’s event or events. This event will coincide with the conclusion of the first day’s Noon tournament and will give bracelet winners extra exposure to both the spectators in attendance and the media.
WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack stated, “Essentially, we are going to take the bracelets which in some instances have been awarded under the cover of darkness by whoever happened to be around at two in the morning, and bring them into the spotlight where they truly belong.”
A classic example of an event concluding with little fanfare is the 2008 WSOP $1,500 Limit Holdem Shootout. Round 2 and the final table of the event had to be fit into Day 2 and the event did not crown the bracelet winner until 7:30 a.m. in the morning. Now with the bracelet ceremony, each winner will receive their moment in the sun.
Also, the bracelet ceremony will mimic Olympic ceremonies with the playing of a player’s national anthem after each bracelet win. After the presentation, pictures and interviews with the bracelet winner will be available. This actually is a help to many media members. Now, media members do not have to hang around until the event concludes if all they require is a picture of the winner.
The WSOP kicks off on May 27th with the Casino Employees Event. The first open event is the 28th with the $40,000 buy-in 40th Anniversary Event.
