WSOP Main Event Final Table to Be Auctioned Off
Two days ago, Peter Eastgate defeated Ivan Demidov heads-up to win the WSOP Main Event and over $9 Million in prize money. Now fans will have the opportunity to bid on the actual table used during play.
XP Events and the World Series of Poker are teaming up to run a set of auctions at wsopshop.com to give fans the opportunity to own pieces of the Main Event. Fans can place bid on not only the final table, but also the dealer button, decks of cards used during the final tables and heads up, and even on the Milwaukee’s Best Light neon signs that were on display during the event.
Alan Fey, President of XP Events said the following, “The Final Table is one of the most highly-anticipated sports events of the year. Fans will be able to log onto the WSOP online store the evening of the ESPN broadcast and begin bidding on memorabilia as well as browse the wide range of other WSOP-branded items available.”
Ty Stewart, Director of Marketing for the WSOP said, “This auction is the ultimate bragging rights for any home game player, to own a piece of the game’s history. This is the first time that the public has had the opportunity to bid on authentic items from the World Series of Poker Main Event, and the centerpiece of the auction will be the Final Table itself. We have very passionate fans and we expect this auction to generate a lot of interest.”
The auction will run until November 24th. At present, the final table has only one bid at $25,000. Playing cards for the final table start at $100 and cards used during heads up start at $50.
It should be interesting how much these items will actually bring at action. If Harrah’s was to just auction this off for more money, it would just fuel the negative sentiments regarding Harrah’s running of the WSOP. There hasn’t been any mention about donating any money to charity in regards to this auction. One would think that they would do such, but nothing has been announced.
