WSOP Changes Player of the Year Standards to Include Main Event
On Saturday, the WSOP announced that the 2009 WSOP Player of the Year race will include the Main Event. In prior years, the Main Event did not figure into the points calculation. One possible reason for the change may be the fact that only two bracelet events are being broadcast this year. Including the Main Event in the points calculation can give the title some much needed exposure.
The only events that are not used in calculating the WSOP Player of the Year are the Casino Employees Event, the Seniors Event, and the Women’s Event. Erick Lindgren won the 2008 Player of the Year honor after winning his first bracelet and final tabling the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. Event.
None of the 57 events at this year’s WSOP have reached conclusion at the moment so it is literally up in the air whom has the early advantage. Will it be a relatively unknown that has a breakout year or will it be a professional that will take it down?
