Scotty Nguyen Signs With Expekt
Scotty Nguyen is now the new face of Expekt Poker. In a deal that officially kicks off on May 15th, Nguyen will become the figurehead of Expekt.com’s poker operations.
According to Ngyen, “I like Expekt.com and its plans. It will be fun to be part of their future and help them to make their successful poker even more popular.”
According to Dan Vikma, the Public Relations manager for Expekt, “We are really looking forward to working with Scotty. He is the prince of poker and our poker customers have an exciting 2009 to look forward to with Scotty onboard.”
Nguyen is a former Main Event Champion, winning the 1998 WSOP Main Event. He also has a WPT title, winning the 2006 World Poker Open in Tunica, MS. Last year, Nguyen took down the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. Event at the World Series of Poker and then followed that up with a win in the $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. Championship at this year’s LA Poker Classic.
Nguyen has long been known as the “Prince of Poker” with his ability to charm players at the table. Last year, he sparked controversy at the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. Event for his treatment of Michael DeMichele. However, as with many players, if you can consistently show the ability to win, there is usually someone out there willing to sign you to an endorsement.
Nguyen made a promise earlier in the year that he would retire from poker if he did not win $4 Million at this year’s World Series of Poker. Considering some of his statements in Expekt’s press release, that now seems unlikely. Nguyen said, “Overall, I will be the face of Expekt.com Poker and play WSOP and more live tournaments in the late summer and autumn. It will be great fun, baby.”
Clearly, Nguyen is looking forward to a long partnership with Expekt. Of course, if Nguyen can make a couple of deep runs in major events that the 2009 WSOP, then Expekt’s investment in him could pay off in spades.
