Sally Anne Boyer Sues Harrahs and WSOP Academy
Sally Anne Boyer, the 2007 WSOP Ladies Champion, has filed a lawsuit against Harrah Entertainment and the WSOP Academy for alleged misuse of her image and likeness in advertisements for the WSOP Academy.
Prior to the 2007 WSOP Ladies Event, Sally Anne Boyer attended the WSOP Academy. After winning the Ladies event, she became the poster child of the academy and was quoted as saying that the WSOP Academy was “The quickest way to your WSOP Bracelet!” She is also listed as an academy graduate.
Boyer and her attorneys with the firm of Bowler Dixon & Twitchell LLP contend that Boyer only attended one day of the WSOP Academy and did not graduate. Furthermore, she contends that she didn’t not make quote made famous by the site and seeks damages and reclamation of profits received via her likeness.
Post Oak Productions, the company responsible for the WSOP Academy, released the following statement through its CEO Jeff Goldenberg: I would like to comment in detail, but our attorneys won’t let us. Suffice it to say we were absolutely shocked that this suit was filed. The suit is entirely baseless and we look forward to being entirely vindicated when all of the facts come out in court.”
It is possible that Boyer may not have a leg to stand on after the following comment to Post Oak Productions regarding an ad featuring her in 2007: “Think the latest ad looks fine. I’d like to mail you a better picture I have of myself in my ‘poker tournament attire’ which you could use for future ads if you like”
We will provide updates on this situation as they become available.
