The fifth season of NBC’s hit show Poker After Dark now officially has a schedule. Poker After Dark started as a six player sit-n-go tournament where the winner took all of the $120,000 prize pool. As seasons progressed, new formats were tried out including a cash game format that brought 6 players together to play high stakes poker. Each tournament or cash game was taped and then split up into five main programs and then a 6th program was made called the “Directors Cut” that included player interviews.

Season 5 of Poker After Dark will be filmed at the Golden Nugget in downtown Las Vegas. The Nugget was selected as the venue for Poker After Dark due to the fact that the property has spent a lot of money in renovating the property and the Nugget is beginning to establish itself as one of the top properties downtown.

There will be 13 weeks worth of episodes taped for season 5. Only six weeks worth will consist of the traditional format. Seven weeks will be high stakes cash games with a buy-in of $100,000 up to $250,000. The game will be $200-$400 No Limit Holdem. The stakes and other parts of the game may be changed if all players at the table agree.

Some themes to watch for is “USA vs. Italy,” “International Week,” “Nets vs. Vets,” and “The Hellmuth Bash.” Pros that will appear on the program include Doyle Brunson, David Benyamine, Allen Cunningham, Daniel Negreanu, Mike Matusow, Tom “Durrrr” Dwan, Antonio Esfandiari, Phil Hellmuth and Johnny Chan. New faces that you should expect to see on the show include John Phan, Ivan Demidov, Max Pescatori, and Dario Minieri.

Season five will again be hosted by Leeann Tweeden with color commentary provided by Ali Nejad. Episodes will air in 2009 and should air at their normal time of 2 a.m. EST. To see more go to www.pokerafterdark.com.
