Players to “Face The Ace” This Fall on NBC
More poker television programming is coming this fall. NBC will premier its new poker themed program “Face the Ace” starting August 1st at 9 p.m. The program will also air in primetime the following week, after which it will move to Saturday afternoons.
The show will be hosted by former Sopranos actor Steve Schirripa. Each show will pit players in heads-up matches against poker professional. To start with, a player will given one of three doors to choose from. Behind this door is a professional poker player that they must play a heads-up match with. If they win the game, the player can either walk away with their money or move on to the next opponent. If they defeat their 2nd heads-up opponent, they can either walk away or take a shot at $1 Million by playing a third pro heads-up.
Full Tilt Poker will be the sponsor for the show and it is expected that Full Tilt red pros will compete in the event. Contestants for the show will be selected via online qualifying tournaments at Full Tilt Poker. Poker PROductions is in charge of the show’s production.
It should be interesting to see which pros are pitted against the contestants on a regular basis. Will there be a rotating stream of pros or will Full Tilt and NBC use only the strongest pros to keep from having to pay out as much money. The pros listed for the show according to their website include Phil Ivey, Jennifer Harman, Erik Seidel, Allen Cunningham, and others. It will be interesting to see who is regularly playing on the show and how often the first pro chose just “happens” to be one of the weaker NL players.
The initial exposure of the show on primetime should prove interesting as seldom do you see poker programming in primetime on the big three networks.
