Jeffrey Pollack Steps Down as WSOP Commissioner
Jeffrey Pollack is out as the Commissioner of the WSOP. Pollack has officially resigned from his position and November 13th was his last day on the job. Pollack joined Harrah’s in 2005 as a VP of Marketing. In 2006 he was promoted to President and Commissioner of the WSOP.
Since joining the WSOP, Pollack has made strides in growing the WSOP. Attendance for the WSOP has grown by 88% since 2005. The WSOP Europe was then instituted in 2007 and has enjoyed three outstanding years. In 2006, the $50,000 HORSE event was created to meet pro player demand for a large buy-in event. Also among improvements he oversaw were the Ante Up for Africa charity event and the Poker Hall of Fame induction ceremony. The November Nine concept was also created and instituted under his watch.
Upon leaving, Pollack stated: “It’s bittersweet, but I’m leaving with just great memories and a really nice sense of it being a great run. More than anything else, I’m just appreciative of the opportunity to have been part of the WSOP.” According to Seth Palansky, WSOP Spokesman, “We appreciate Jeffrey’s contributions over the past four years and wish him the best in the future. The World Series of Poker remains the market leader with this year’s tournament exceeding all expectations and we are well positioned for the future. There is no intention at this time to replace the Commissioner role.”
Pollack made his goodbyes on his Twitter page: “Thank you for allowing me to be part of the #WSOP these last few years. I will always be a fan and friend to the poker community.”
