Harrah’s Forms Oraganization to Market WSOP
The WSOP now has its own promotional organization. Harrah’s Entertainment has created Harrah’s Interactive Entertainment. This organization’s primary focus will be to manage the growth of the WSOP on a global scale.
Mitch Garber will take over the role of CEO for HIE. Garber was the former PartyGaming CEO that recently signed with Harrah’s Entertainment. Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack will become President of the newly formed group. Additionally, Pollack will remain as Commissioner of the WSOP.
Gary Loveman, President and CEO of Harrah’s made the following statement, “As the world’s largest gaming company, Harrah’s is taking a proactive approach toward international and interactive expansion.” “It is important we position ourselves to explore new markets as well as new technologies with our best in class brands.”
In addition to marketing the WSOP, HIE will have the task of introducing new interactive gaming opportunities globally. They will first focus on expanding the Harrah’s brand into Europe.
The announcement came just a few days before the kickoff of the 40th Annual World Series of Poker. Among the early highlights of the WSOP are the $40,000 40th anniversary event that is expected to draw the strongest NL Holdem field of the Series. Also, the $1,000 Stimulus Event kicks off May 30th. This event should boast at least the largest live poker event outside of the Main Event.
