Not everyone has the bankroll to play over 50 events at the World Series of Poker. In fact, there are many players that will be lucky enough to be able to afford to play in more than one event. For those wanting a cheaper alternative to the WSOP this summer, check out the Binions Poker Classic.

The Binions Poker Classic will be held from May 25th to July 8th at Binion’s Gambling Hall and Casino in downtown Las Vegas. The events offer players a chance to play in events similar to those at the WSOP, but at a reduced rate. This is the 3rd year of the Poker Classic and attendance at the prior two has been phenomenal.

Most of the buy-ins range from $150 to $200. The Main Event of the Poker Classic is a NL Holdem event on July 7th and 8th, with a buy-in of $1,000. Each tournament has an additional “bonus buy” of $10 which will give players an additional 2,000 in starting chips. All events at the classic have 30 minute levels with the exception of the three $500 buy-in events and the Main Event. The $500 buy-in tournaments have 45 minute levels and the Main Event has 60 minute levels.

Games included at the classic are Limit Holdem, Pot Limit Omaha, Omaha 8 or Better, Stud 8 or Better, and even crazy pineapple. There will also be two H.O.R.S.E. tournaments as well as a ½ PLO ½ PLH and ½ Stud 8 ½ Omaha 8 Event.

Most events will start at 2 pm with the exception of the $500 buy-in events, which start at noon. These fields have had a good mix of amateur and pros over the last two years. Some players use the events as practice leading up to the WSOP and others actually try to use the events to offset some of the WSOP cost.
