Scotty Nguyen
Scotty Nguyen was born in Vietnam in 1962 and move to the United States with his family in 1976. Even at the age of fourteen, Nguyen was already playing poker and it wasn’t long before the teenager was expelled from his school as he spent too much time in the underground poker rooms. Nguyen got a job as a dealer and where he spent time playing the game too. In 1985 he was asked to deal in a No Limit Hold’em tournament in Lake Tahoe where he would deal during the day and play at night. He had been totally bitten by the bug and on his return hit the Las Vegas tables where he had soon made $1,000,000 from the $7,000 he had brought with him. It wasn’t long before people began to talk about Scotty Nguyen.

Nguyen has won five World Series of Poker bracelets, the first one coming in the $2000 Omaha 8 or Better event in 1997. In 1998 he won the main event at the WSOP – the $10000 No Limit Hold’em World Championship. He won a further two bracelets in 2001 in the $2000 Pot Limit Omaha and the $5000 Omaha Hi-Lo Split 8 or Better. His fifth bracelet was won in 2008 in the $50000 H.O.R.S.E. World Championship event. Scotty’s five WSOP bracelets puts him in 12th position on the all time WSOP bracelet list.
Scotty Nguyen has cashed 37 times at the World Series of Poker which puts him in 30th position on this leader board and his WSOP winnings are almost five million dollars which puts him in a respectable 15th place of all time WSOP winnings. His total winnings in all tournaments amount to over eleven million dollars.
Scotty Nguyen is one of the more colorful characters in the game and has been had his fair share of criticism especially during his 2008 WSOP bracelet win in the H.O.R.S.E. event. He was heavily criticized for his behavior here where he was seen drinking alcohol and swearing at fellow contestants. He later had to apologize for his behavior.
