Jay Heimowitz was born in 1937 and comes from New York.  He started playing poker as a child for baseball cards but while in the army he managed to win $10,000.  He used this money to set up a small beer and bottling company in New York.  He built up his company and was given a distributorship from Budweiser.  He eventually sold the company to Budweiser.  During all the time he spent building up his company and making it a success, he still continued to play poker.

Heimowitz has remained an amateur poker player throughout his career but this has not stopped him from winning six World Series of Poker bracelets.  He is well known on the tournament circuit despite not being a professional player.  He has played in the most Main Events at the World Series of Poker.

His first WSOP bracelet was won in 1975 in No Limit Hold’em event and he won more bracelets in that game in 1986 and 2001.  He has another three WSOP bracelets which he won in 1991 (Pot Limit Ohama), 1994 (Pot Limit Hold’em) and 2000 (Limit Hold’em).  It was estimated that by 2005 he had made over one and a half million dollars in poker winnings.

Many people consider Jay Heimowitz to be one of the best players in the game.  He is truly gifted when it comes to playing poker and the fact that he has remained an amateur player means that he can play mostly money games.  His WSOP achievements are right up there with the big boys as he is currently in the top ten of WSOP bracelet winners.

Heimowitz continues to play poker and lives in New York with his wife of forty years.  He has four sons, two of whom play poker too.
