Mickey Appleman
Being a keen sports bettor, the money he won was used to fund his poker career in the early days. He began playing poker in New York in the Mayfair Club and actually played against some of the now top names in poker there.
Appleman has won four World Series of Poker bracelets during his career. He first entered the World Series of Poker in 1975 but it was not until 1980 that he won his first bracelet in the $1000 Seven Card Stud Split. In 1992 Appleman won his second bracelet, this time in the $5000 Deuce to Seven Draw. His final two WSOP bracelets were won in 1995 ($5000 Limit Hold’em) and 2003 ($2000 Pot Limit Hold’em).
Of the all time WSOP bracelet winners Mickey Appleman is currently in 24th position with his four bracelets. His 38 cashes at the World Series of Poker have seen him pick up over one million dollars in prize money. He has finished in the top 25 of the WSOP Main Event four times during his 30 year career.
Mickey Appleman is still playing poker today and one of the most amazing things about Appleman is the fact that each of his WSOP bracelets was won in a different form of the game making him the complete all round player. His background in math has given him a methodical and logical approach to the game which he uses to great effect.
