Perry Green
Perry Green is a professional poker player from Alaska who was born in 1936. He was a fur trader in his homeland who began playing tournament poker during the 1970s.
The first time Green cashed at the World Series of Poker was in 1976 and it was when he won his first gold bracelet. He placed first in the $1000 Ace to Five Draw event and for this he earned prize money of $68,300. The following year he cashed again and also picked up his second bracelet. Finishing first in the $5000 Ace to Five Draw event earned him another gold bracelet and prize money of $10,000.
Green’s tournament poker was looking bright. When he cashed again at the World Series of Poker in 1979 he again won a gold bracelet. This time he won the $1500 No Limit Texas Hold’em event and his prize money was $76,500.
In 1981 Green came close to clinching the World Series of Poker World Championship Main Event but had to settle for second place behind Stu Ungar. But the $150,000 he earned must have provided some consolation, however small.
Although he has not won any more WSOP gold bracelets so far, he has come close on many occasions with a number of top five finishes. He cashed twenty four times at the World Series of Poker and these cashes netted him a total of $530,810. This was out of total tournament earnings of almost one million dollars.
He has been heavily involved in trying to get casino poker legalized in Alaska but this has so far been unsuccessful. His last cash at the WSOP was in the $3000 Omaha Hi/Lo event in 2006 and he has had only one other cash in tournament poker since then also in 2006.
