David Sklansky
David Sklansky was born in New Jersey in 1947 and as well as being a professional poker player, he is also an author of many gambling books and is considered to be an authority on the subject. Before becoming a professional gambler, Sklansky worked briefly as an actuary but decided to give it up to play poker full time. His books on poker are some of the best in the world and you will probably see them in the home of any serious poker player.
Sklansky holds three World Series of Poker gold bracelets and his first two were won in 1982. He won his first bracelet in the $1000 Draw High event and for this he picked up prize money of $15,500. His second bracelet was for the $800 Mixed Doubles event and this time prize money was $8,800. The following year he won his third bracelet and $25,500 for placing first in the $1000 Limit Omaha event.
Although his last bracelet was picked up over twenty seven years ago, Sklansky still plays in most of the major tournaments and has cashed twenty four times so far at the World Series of Poker. These 24 cashes have earned him prize money of over $392,000 so far at this event and this is from total tournament earnings of just over $1,300,000.
He has written or co-written thirteen gambling books which have proved to be really popular and he also contributed to one of the sections in Doyle Brunson’s Super System. His book ‘The Theory of Poker’ is said to be one of the most important poker books ever written for those wanting to improve their game.
