Ryan Hughes
Ryan Hughes is a likeable character in the world of professional poker. At just 26, he’s young to have achieved so much in what is an extremely competitive game. A student who dropped out of his course of study, it’s safe to say that Hughes arrived at poker because he has a natural talent. He’s a quiet player on the circuit, in the sense that he’s not quick to come forward when it comes to talking about his achievements. His wins speak for themselves, however, and he’s revered as the winner of not one, but two WSOP bracelets.
Ryan Hughes has won close to $1.5 million, around half of which comes from the WSOP. One of his most significant wins was against Greg Raymer, a highly respected player, and at a game with which he has very little experience. He later said of this win that he’d been lucky when it came to the hands and that he’d joined it on a whim.
Hughes lives in Phoenix, Arizona and is not married. His goals include winning the means to travel and ultimately succeeding at the very biggest $100,000+ buy-in games. For a softly spoken player he certainly doesn’t lack nerve when it comes to high stakes. Older, more experienced players would do well to regard Hughes as a force to be reckoned with, whatever the game. His favorite kind of poker is Texas Hold’em without limit.
Outside poker Hughes’ interests include hard rock music and sports, mainly golf and strategic games. He loves poker and plays every day, so for him it’s not merely a means to an end. He has been known to express the view that every place should have a free golf course. If he continues to play as well as he has been, he might one day be able to buy his own.
