John Hennigan

In the world of gambling, John Hennigan’s what can safely be regarded as an expert. Before turning to poker he was an old hand at professional pool, and earned the nickname ‘Johnny World’ in honor of his reputation for betting on any game in the world. He’s reputed to need a game to bet on when there’s no game to join. Both Gavin Smith and Daniel Negreanu, two of the most respected poker players in the world, have stated in interview that they consider Hennigan to be the best player they have ever come up against, and there can be few better plaudits than that.

"Johnny World" Hennigan

Hennigan is rightly proud of his two WSOP bracelet wins. His first came when he won at the $2K H.O.R.S.E. event in 2002 to take home $117,320. Two years later in 2004, Hennigan won the $5K Limit Hold’Em event to the tune of $325,360 and took home his second treasured bracelet. These two wins certainly cemented his reputation around the card table, though many had known for a long time that he was one to watch. He has gambling in his blood and he’s extremely good at it.

John Hennigan currently resides in Philadelphia but he spends a great deal of his time in Las Vegas, which is no surprise when you consider his first love. As on last year his tournament winnings exceed $3.2Million. Victories amounting to 10 cashes at the WSOP account for over $833K of that sum.

Having asserted that Hennigan’s truly one of the biggest names in the game, it’s also true to say that he likes to keep a low profile. It’s quite possible that it’s part of a good strategy to lay relatively low so that challengers aren’t too intimidated to get their wallets out when it comes to games. Whatever his profile, John Hennigan is never far from a third bracelet win.
