Hoyt Corkins
Hoyt Bricken Corkins is truly an all-American poker player. With two WSOP bracelets to his name and a reputation for being one of the most dangerous players you could meet around a table, he has all the qualifications you’d expect of a player known as ‘The Cowboy’. He invariably wears a Stetson and boots when he plays, and inspires fear in many top class players.
Born in Glenwood, Alabama, Corkins is known for being a quiet player, but he’s entirely ruthless when it comes to strategy in the game. He has two World Poker Tour titles under his cowboy belt, as well as two all-important WSOP bracelets.
Corkins won his first WSOP bracelet back in 1992 at the Pot Limit Omaha $5K tournament. He came close to winning a second at the WSOP Tournament of Champions in 2005, when he came second to win an impressive $325K. His second bracelet actually came with a win in 2007, at the final table of the 6 Hand No Limit Hold’Em $2.5K event. This time he let with a precious bracelet as well as a cool $325K in winnings.
Corkins took a lengthy break from poker following his bracelet win in 1992. This was due to coping with a divorce. Latterly, his new fiancée Natalie encouraged him to return to the game and he reappeared on the scene in 2003. He was immediately successful on re-entering the game, leading up to his success in winning a second bracelet.
Since winning his second bracelet, Corkins has done extremely well in various tournaments. He’s won a lot of money and appeared at the final table in many prestigious competitions. It could only be a matter of time before he wins a third bracelet, and Corkins shows every sign of going from strength to strength in the game.
