One of the most interesting and intellectual professional poker players around, Howard Lederer possesses both class and refinement at the table. His family is all gifted in various ways, and he’s one of two siblings who are professional card players. His sister, Annie Duke is also a master poker player. His sister Katy is a poet and author, and some might say that through his precisely methodical approach to the game he brings a particular poetry to his chosen game.
Howard Lederer needs no introduction for fans of professional tournament poker. He’s a talented player with years of experience under his belt. He’s a sage for other players and mastermind behind a video on poker strategy. Among his most prized winnings are two WSOP bracelets. He won his first back in 2000, when he emerged as victor in the $5K Limit Omaha Hi-Lo event, from which he took home winnings of $198K. The very next year, in 2001, he won $165,870 and another bracelet through triumphing in the $5K Deuce to Seven Draw.
Lederer has a high profile within the game, and has earned the nickname ‘Poker Professor’ through being so successful and knowledgeable. He’s released a video to instruct aspiring players, titled ‘Secrets of No Limit Hold’Em and he’s the co-host of two different poker shows for the Fox network – Learn from the Pros and Poker Superstars. Lederer has been tremendously successful at poker, by anyone’s standards. His live tournament winnings are approaching $6Million and 43 WSOP cashes account for $1,541,474 of those.
A vegan, Lederer once won a $10K bet by eating a cheeseburger. He’s battled excess weight and come out on the other side after a successful gastric bypass. His sister’s written a book entitled ‘A Girlhood Among Gamblers’ and is herself a major force to be reckoned with in professional poker. He’s known as a strategist and a pioneer of the game, and he looks set to remain a prominent player of top class cards.
