David “The Dragon” Pham
David Pham earned the nickname ‘The Dragon’ because he consistently lights a fire under his competitors around the poker table. He inflames the play to such an extent that things can get very heated indeed, but this Vietnamese professional player often emerges in top. He has two WSOP bracelets under his belt and he was named player of the year in 2002.
Pham’s first WSOP bracelet win came in 2001 when he won the $2K S.H.O.E event to take home $140,455. His second was five years later in 2006 when he won the $2K No Limit Hold’Em Shootout to take home a glorious $240,222. Since the World Poker Tour became a reality he’s appeared at the final tables seven times, but without a win yet. He finished 4th at the European Poker Tour’s Poker Stars Caribbean Adventure, to win $600K. Pham’s defeats as well as his successes seem to make his stronger as a player, and he’s known to be a formidable player whatever the competition. He’s finished first in no less than 14 major poker tournaments in the last 4 years.
Pham was born in South Vietnam in 1967. He’s a cousin of the famous poker player Men ‘The Master’ Nguyen, who has a reputation among those in the know for being an expert card player. Pham’s cousin ran a laundry business, for which he worked for a time early on in his career. Pham is said to have learned the art of poker from his cousin, who has a reputation for being something of a professor when it comes to the game. Aside from Pham’s success, his renowned cousin can feel proud of having helped a good number of other employees and even charities to learn the finer points of how to win at the game. Pham is a most formidable player. He lives with his wife and four children in Bell Gardens, California.
