David Baxter
This player won an impressive $1.4Million at tournaments during his lifetime, and he was also the proud owner of two WSOP bracelets. David Baxter had a great reputation within the game of professional poker. With two bracelet wins under his belt, he had little left to prove within the game when he sadly died.
David Baxter was a professional American poker player from Corpus Christi, Texas. His most illustrious achievements in poker were proven by his two significant World Series of Poker bracelet wins. Baxter won his first prized bracelet back in 1980, when he triumphed in the $1.5No Limit Hold’Em event, to take home the impressive sum of $145.5K. His second bracelet win followed soon after, when he beat an impressive field of players to emerge victorious in the 1986 $2.5K Pot Limit Omaha With Rebuys event, to bank a respectable $127K.
On top of his two bracelet wins, David Baxter also cashed twice in the $10K Main Event. He placed 18th back in 1991 and 22nd later on in 1995. 12 WSOP cashes in total earned him an impressive $415,607. He also proved his skills in many other notable tournaments, including Amarillo Slim’s Super Bowl of Poker and The Grand Prix of Poker.
Baxter won in the $10K No Limit Hold’Em event at the Grand Prix of Poker in 1984, to leave with the title and prize money of $320K. When valiantly trying to keep his title the following year, he ultimately finished as runner-up.
Baxter emerged as champion in the $1K Ace to Five event at AMERICA’S Cup of Poker and the $5K Deuce to Seven event of the Grand Prix of poker in 1987. He was also a fixture at tables in the Super Bowl of Poker during the 1980’s. During a long and fruitful career there were many other tournaments and many other victories, but his highest achievements remained his two WSOP bracelet wins. He retired from poker in the late 90’s and since died, leaving his bracelet wins as a legacy within the game.
