John Brock Parker is very well respected in the world of professional, high stakes poker. Usually pictured with a smile on his face, he has a reputation for skills that seem beyond the scope of his 27 years. A credit to his home town of Silver Spring in Maryland, he’s achieved enormous success in poker, and risen with the game to become one of it’s most well known characters. He prefers the name Brock to John.

John Brock Parker is one of many rising stars in the world of poker who started out playing the Hasbro card game ‘Magic: The Gathering’. Before turning to poker in 1999, Parker was among the best ‘Magic: The Gathering’ players in the world, having won the Magic Pro Tour, which is the highest accolade for that game. He’s credited with turning many other players of ‘Magic’ onto poker, and he counts many friends among the big name young players on the circuit.

It’s significant that Parker arrived at poker via ‘Magic’. Both games employ skill and ingenuity, though poker is by far the more traditional of the two. In ‘Magic’, players use strategy to defeat opponents in terms of spells and strengths. The similarities between this game and poker lie in the fact that both require players to exercise intelligence and subtlety in order to succeed.

As any player would be, Brock Parker is immensely proud of the two bracelets he’s won at the WSOP. These wins brought him significant financial rewards, and his earnings to date are thought to be somewhere in the region of $1.75 million. He lives close to some other big names in the poker world, north of Washington D.C.

We should all expect that Parker will be a continuing presence at big games in the world of professional poker. He’ll find no need to rest on his laurels while there are games to be played and a formidable talent to be exploited.
