The Power of Position

Here we are looking at why position is so important in poker. Many parts of the game can be related to the position. Position is when you act on the poker table. Good position is at the end being one of the last to act. The opposite playing early is a negative position. You will never understand how important this is until you have been playing poker.

The pros decided that early position is a place where you always need to be conservative. In late position you are able to make a decision to be aggressive or to be conservative.

Like all aspects of poker reading your table is very important. This is the main reason when position comes into play. If you are playing from the late position you get to see how people are going to react in front of you. From the early position you get no chance to react to different people while everyone can react to you.

In the middle the one aspect that comes into play is that you are going to be in a weak position because you are at the mercy of everyone. The early position can throw you on tilt and the later position can come in and knock you out of the hand making you throw away money.

The one advantage of starting early is that you are going to be able to scare away opponents. The only reason this helps is that you can really scare off lower hands and often times be in a position to steal blinds. Just don’t try to do this to often conservative is the best when playing early.

For new players you won’t understand the advantageous of playing early or later. Over time these strategies will be more apparent.
