Protecting Your Hands
This comes up when you start losing good hands. Often time’s players will think that their hands are invincible.
When you get a high pair from the start you should try to knock out the weaker hands by betting high at the start. This often can disappoint the owner of these hands because many people will just fold. But it is better to win a small pot than lose a major pot when people fail to bow out and outdraw you.
If you fail to protect this hand you can get hurt. Many people will say this way you can scare everyone off. The problem is that you can get burned on the flop. Often time’s players will get suckered in because they don’t see what is coming.
Sometimes a player will catch two pair with a garbage hand. This player will probably bet high leaving you with a lower hand. Now you are stuck trying to figure out if you are in a bad position. Also you were the raiser to start off this game. Many times when this happens you will be in a position that doesn’t allow you walk away. But the problem is that you need to. Then the final thing is you losing the hand.
When you are learning the game you must learn to protect your hand. If you decide that you do not want to be aggressive with a high pair then you must be able to walk away. Watching your opponents and the structure of your betting will allow you to do this.
If you are aggressive from the start you will knock out many people that are holding nothing. This will always give you an advantage on the table. This is just another way to play smart and win more money.
