Poker Hand Rankings

When getting started with poker and Texas Hold’em after learning the structure of how the cards are dealt the next important thing to learn is how to tank hands. If you do not understand how cards are ranked you never will be able to win.

First we start off with the rankings. We will go from lowest to highest:

High Card (Highest Card)

Pair (Two of the same card in one Hand)

Two Pair (Two separate pairs)

Three of a Kind (Three of the same card in one Hand)

Straight (Sequence of 5 cards in a row)

Flush (5 cards of the same suit)

Full House (Three of a kind plus a pair)

Four of a Kind (Four cards of the same value in a hand)

Straight Flush (Running Sequence of 5 suited cards)

Royal Flush (Highest Possible Strait Flush 10, J, Q, K, A) This is the highest possible hand in poker.

It is very important that you learn this as quickly as possible. You will notice that one of the greatest things about Texas Hold’em is how quick the games go.

In Texas Hold’em each player is dealt two cards which are called hole cards, they will be placed faced down. These cards will be used in your total hand. Then there will be a round of betting where you can bet or fold your cards. After this three cards will be placed in the middle face up. All players can use these cards when making these hands.

After the flop you should know if your hand is strong or weak. After this there will be a round of betting and then the turn card. Next will be another round of betting followed by the river card and then the final round of betting.
