Poker and the Pro's
For about 3 years now, I’ve been playing Holdem; just before it got awesomely huge. I actually see myself as an average player in terms of the stakes I play, which normally ranges from playing from $20-$100 tournaments, $5-10 limit, and nl table games with as much as $300 buy ins.
I am not bothered of any issue actually but just recently, poker has been very visible on television and I noticed many people were tricked on some games. Typically, you will see 1 or 2 hour sessions and monster hands, weird hands or river hits. For me, these merely imply lack of patience and absurdness.
I think such games you see on television are the opposite of the ones in reality, games which are actually like a skillful chess game.
Any advise to new and learning players who love to watch heavy hitters play more and hit well?
Thanks!
Alex
Alex,
For those that watch televised poker, they must remember that TV poker is heavily edited and they only show the most entertaining or relevant hands to the event. You miss a lot of the strategy and the boring hands that lead to the confrontations.
When I talk to people about watching TV poker, I encourage them to watch for the entertainment value, and not to develop strategy.
