With huge fan following, these poker stars set trends and showed how this game can change their life. The average Joe too began dreaming of big bucks and a gold bracelet. While the potential to win Millions is enticing, many players make the journey to the World Series of Poker for a chance to win a gold championship bracelet.
The bracelets are studded with diamonds and other precious stones. The standard version has about 53 diamonds and the World Series of Poker main event bracelet has over 120 diamonds on 136 grams of 18 carat white gold. The value of these bracelets are not declared officially but it could be somewhere between $15,000-$30,000.
The main event bracelet in 2008 had over 291 diamonds which totaled to 2.81 carats set in 168 grams of 18kt white gold. The other 54 event bracelets consisted of 55 diamonds each and were about 0.25 carats and were set in 80 grams of 14kt yellow gold. Apart from the prize money, the bracelet itself has been the attraction over the years.
WSOP Bracelet Winners: Phil Hellmuth is the all-time bracelet winner with 11 gold bracelets. Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan are tied with 10 bracelets each. Going into the 2005 World Series of Poker, Hellmuth, Brunson, and Chan were tied at 9 bracelets each. Bracelets are awarded to the winner of a WSOP event.
Multiple bracelets are awarded at each World Series of Poker. The winner of each event receives a bracelet. The Main Event bracelet winner is considered the World Champion of Poker and now has their own special bracelet for the event.
In 2005, Johnny Chan was the first player in history to reach 10 bracelets when he won a Pot Limit Holdem event. Doyle Brunson soon tied the mark by winning the Shorthanded No-Limit Holdem the same year. In 2006, Phil Hellmuth was able to win his 10th WSOP bracelet to tie both Brunson and Chan. 2007 saw Hellmuth set the current standard when he took his 11th WSOP bracelet. He nearly picked up his 12th bracelet in 2008 but fell short with a 3rd place finish in the $1,500 H.O.R.S.E. event.
