WSOP Main Event Final Table Recap #3 – Cada vs. Moon for the Bracelet

November 8th, 2009

As play approached the 3 a.m. PST on Sunday Morning, five players remained at the WSOP Main Event final table. The is how the final five stood in chips:

Antoine Saout 59,025,000
Eric Buchman 51,550,000
Joe Cada 47,650,000
Darvin Moon 31,775,000
Jeff Shulman 5,800,000

Jeff Shulman was the short stack and didn’t waste long before putting that stack at risk. He moved all-in under-the-gun pre-flop with pocket sevens and was called by the Ac-9s of Antoine Saout. The flop fell 10s-9d-6s to give Saout middle pair and Shulman a straight draw. The turn fell the Qc and Shulman needed a seven or an eight to win. The river fell the 4s, and Jeff Shulman was our 5th place finisher. The WSOP bracelet is safe from being thrown in the trash and Shulman headed out with a $1,953,452 payday.

The largest pot of the tournament resulted in the crippling of Eric Buchman. Buchman raised to 2.5 Million from the button and Antoine Saout re-raised to 9 Million. Action comes back to Buchman, who announces all-in. Saout goes into the tank for a long time before finally making the call. Saout discovers his call is correct when his Ad-Kc is dominating the Ah-Qc of Buchman. The flop fell 10h-7c-Kd to give Saout top pair and Buchman a broadway draw. Saout picked up trips when the Kh hit the turn. The river then fell a harmless 6d to knock Buchman down to 9.8 Million in chips. Saout became the new chip leader at 89.2 Million.

Buchman would then a few hands later take a page out of Darvin Moon’s suckout book Buchman moved all-in from the big blind and Darvin Moon made the call. Buchman was behind with Kd-10c to the Ac-7s of Buchman. The flop fell Kh-5c-9s to give Buchman the lead. Another king on the turn sealed the hand for Buchman and propelled him to 23.8 Million in chips. Moon was still in fine shape with 50.8 Million.

Moon should write the book “Sucking Out for Dummies.” On the very next hand, Moon raised to 3 Million from the button and Eric Buchman moved all-in. Moon made the call and showed Kd-Jd. He was behind to the Ad-5c of Buchman. Everyone held their breath to see if the Moon suckout train would continue. The train’s first stop missed as the flop fell Qc-9h-2c. However, the turn fell the Kh to give Moon the lead. The river then fell the 5h and Eric Buchman fell victim to the Darvin Moon suckout train. Eric Buchman was our 4th place finisher, and took home $2,502,890. Moon moved up to 76 Million in chips after the hand.

Three-handed play started with Antoine Saout leading with 80.65 Million and Cada coming in with the short stack at just over 39.2 Million.

Antoine Saout 80,650,000
Darvin Moon 75,925,000
Joseph Cada 39,225,000

The suckout train continued to chug through the night. The very next hand after Buchman’s bustout, Joe Cada would double up through Antoine Saout in dramatic fashion to take the chip lead. Cada raised to 2.55 Million pre-flop, followed by a raise to 7.3 Million from Saout. Cada then moved all in for 39 Million and Saout insta-called with pocket queens. Cada was far behind with pocket deuces. The suckout gods said “make it suck” and the flop fell 7s-2d-9s to give Cada a set of deuces. The turn fell the 3h and Saout was left needing a queen. The river fell the 6s and Joe Cada doubled up to 78.6 Million and the chip lead. Saout was the short stack with 41.425 Million.

It only took four more hands before we reached our final two players. Joe Cada raised to 2.5 Million pre-flop and Antoine Saout moved all-in for 47.575 Million. Action folded back to Cada who made the call. It was a classic race with Saout holding pocket eights and Cada Ad-Ks. The flop of 5h-4s-5c missed both players. The turn 10d left Saout one card away from retaking the chip lead. It was not meant to be as the river fell a devastating Kc to give Cada a pair of kings and end Saout’s run. Antoine Saout made an impressive run after starting as the 2nd shortest stack of the final table. He finished in 3rd place, and received $3,479,670.

Our final two opponents are now set. Suckout artists Joe Cada and Darvin Moon will play it out on Monday for the bracelet and $8.54 Million. Second will receive $5.18 Million. Cada takes over a 2 to 1 chip lead into the final table holding 135,950,000 chips to the 58,850,000 of Moon.

Play will resume Monday night at 9 P.M. PST and continue until the bracelet is awarded. We will be back here at theWSOPblog to bring you recaps of the action as it goes down. See you Tuesday!
