Day 7 of the WSOP Main Event started with 64 players returning to try and work their way down to the final 27. Darvin Moon entered the day with the chip lead at 9.74 Million and Phil Ivey was in 3rd place with 6.34 Million. A lot of big names were still in the field, but as the day marched on, many fell by the wayside.

Phahlad Friedman was the first player eliminated on the day. He was all-in pre-flop for 840,000 and called by Bradley Craig. Friedman held Kh-Qc and was dominated by Craig’s Ad-Ks. The board failed to improve Friedman and he was out in 64th. Joe Sebok had been playing on a short stack for over two days and finally succumbed in 56th place. He moved all-in from the button with A-9 and was called by Ben Lamb, who held A-Q. The flop and turn failed to produce a nine and the river Qs ended Sebok’s Main Event.

Tom Schneider made a deep run in this event, but fell short of the final table in 52nd place. He moved all-in pre-flop for 1.12 Million with Ah-7d and was called by Marc McLaughlin with pocket nines. Schneider picked up a pair of sevens on the turn, but failed to outdraw McLaughlin by the river. Schneider took home $138,568 for his deep run.

Fabrice Soulier re-raised all-in pre-flop after Tommy Vedes made an 185,000 raise. Vedes made the call and found himself racing Ah-Kh against Soulier’s pocket tens. Both flopped big when the flop came Jh-9h-8s. Soulier held a straight draw and Vedes a flush draw. The turn of the 5s missed both players, but the river 8h gave Vedes the flush and sent Soulier out in 49th place.

Dennis Phillips was all-in pre-flop against Francois Balmigere and tied as both held A-K. Phillips was suited in diamonds and Francois Balmigere in spade. Balmigere took the lead when the flop fell 4s-Kc-6s as he picked up a flush draw. The turn 10h increased the chop odds, but the river 5s gave Balmigere the flush and eliminated Dennis Phillips in 45th place.

Eugene Katchalov took a stand with his last 1.095 Million pre-flop as he moved in with As-10c. Unfortunately, Darvin Moon woke up with pocket kings and was looking to eliminate Katchalov. The flop gave Katchalov a pair of tens, but Moon kept the lead. The 2d on the turn missed both players, but the river Kd gave Moon a winning set of kings and sent Katchalov out in 39th place. Blair Rodman moved all-in with his last 815,000 chips with Jh-8c and received a call from Luis Nargentino holding pocket fours. Rodman was unable to catch a jack or eight and was eliminated in 34th place.

Darvin Moon finished the day retaining his chip lead of 20.16 Million. Phil Ivey slipped to 4th place with 11.35 Million. Jeff Shulman and Antonio Esfandiari were the only truly big names left with Shulman entering Day 8 with 10.17 Million and Esfandiari 4.47 Million.

Day 8 will be the big day. The final 27 players will play to the November 9. Each of the November nine will be Millionaires and receive added exposure heading into the final table. Day 8 kicked off Wednesday at Noon and continued until the final table was reached. Stay tuned here for a recap of the action.
