WSOP Event #54 Recap – Tony Veckey Wins $1,500 NL Holdem Bracelet
Event 54 of the WSOP was the last $1,500 NL Holdem event of the Series. A sold out field of 2,818 players took part in this mega-donkament to take their shot at $673,216 and the bracelet. After three long days of play, Tony Veckey, a software engineer from Chicago, took down the bracelet.
297 players finished in the money for this event. Notable players that cashed were Allyn Shulman, Theo Tran, Hevad Khan, Men Nguyen, and Mike Sica.
Veckey was at the middle of the pack for most of the final table and it was not until play was four handed that he made his move. He knocked out Sergey Konkin and Joseph Chaplain to make heads-up but still faced a 2 to 1 chip disadvantage to Jason Wheeler. Veckey managed to battle back during heads-up play to take the chip lead. On the final hand of the event, Veckey moved all-in at the turn on a board of Qc-10d-8d-8c. Wheeler made the call with Jc-9h and held the nut straight. Veckey held Ah-Qs for two pair and needed a queen or eight. The river fell the Qd to give Veckey a full house and the win.
Tony Veckey wins a bracelet in his very first WSOP event, good for $673,276. Congratulations.
