WSOP Circuit Event at Caesars Las Vegas Concludes
The WSOP Circuit Event at Caesars Las Vegas just concluded and has been considered a success by all. 22 events were held over a 19 day period, culminating in the $5,000 NL Holdem Circuit Championship.
Two players made headlines throughout this circuit event. The first was consummate pro Men “The Master” Nguyen. Nguyen made three final tables during the event, including the Circuit Championship Event. He finished in 3rd place in each of the events to take home a combined prize of around $133,000.
James Lopushinsky completed a rare double dip during the circuit. He first won Event #2 to win his first gold ring and $24,932. He would then win again just four days later when he took down Event #7 and the $38,815 top prize. Lopushinsky went for his third ring in Event #20 when he made the final table, but fell short of his third ring when he finished in 4th place. He also made the money in Event #18 to bring his overall winnings for this circuit to over $83,000.
The Circuit Championship Event drew 187 players looking to take their shot at the $227,692 grand prize and seat into the 2009 WSOP Main Event. For a third year in a row, Justin Bonomo would make the final table of this event. Also making the final table were Men “The Master” Nguyen, Matt Graham, and chip leader Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi.
Nguyen, Mizrachi, and Bonomo were the big names at the table and there wasn’t any surprise when they were the last three standing. Nguyen would bust in third and Bonomo and Mizrachi went at it for over four hours heads-up. The final hand saw flush over flush as Bonomo held a king high flush to the jack high flush of Mizrachi. Mizrachi would take home $143,512 for his strong finish, but the day belonged to Bonomo. Justin Bonomo finally breaks through for his first circuit ring and the $227,692 top prize.
The last WSOP Circuit event will come from Harrah’s New Orleans May 8th through 20th. 20 total events will conclude the circuit series for this year with the final Circuit Championship event commencing on May 18th. This will be the last chance for players to pick up a gold ring before the WSOP kicks off May 28th at the Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
