The World Series of Poker Kicks Off May 27th
The World Series of Poker kicks off May 27th from the Rio All Suites Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV. Reverting to a more traditional kickoff, the first event will be the Casino Employee’s NL Event. This event has the smallest buy-in of all events with at $500 buy-in.
The first open event will be the 40th Annual No-Limit Holdem event on the 28th. This event carries a $40,000 price tag and will likely host one of the strongest No-Limit Holdem fields in history.
The first “mega-donkament” will kick off on May 30th with Event #4, which is the $1,000 No-Limit Event. This has been deemed the “Stimulus Event.” Estimates have ranged from 6,000 players to as many as 10,000 players taking their shot at this event. The first day will be split up over 2 days to accommodate the players.
57 events total consist of the WSOP, including the $10,000 Main Event Championship on July 3rd. The final table will again be delayed this year to bring added exposure to the event. Peter Eastgate became the youngest Main Event winner in history when he defeated Ivan Demidov heads-up to take down the Main Event title and over $9 Million in prize money.
Other non-bracelet events will include the Ante Up for Africa charity tournament and the Champions Event. The Champions Event is a special “invite only” tournament that will showcase past Main Event champions. Any champion still alive will receive an invite to this event.
