Harvey's Lake Tahoe WSOP Circuit Main Event Day 1 – First Update

The Main Event of the World Series of Poker Circuit Event at Harvey’s Lake Tahoe started today. This event is the third stop in the WSOP Circuit. After a strong showing in Hammond, organizers hoped to have a strong turnout.

Jerry Yang kicked things off by getting on the microphone and giving the customary “Shuffle up and deal.” As you can tell from the fact that Yang opened the event, this event had a few more big names than the first two events. Jeff Madsen, Kathy Liebert, Allen Kessler. Scott Clements, Michael Binger, Max Pescatori, Johnny Chan, and defending champion Chris “Jesus” Ferguson are all in attendance to make this the strongest field for a circuit Main Event this year.

Michael Binger took the early chip lead when his pocket jacks turned a full house on the river again and opponents A-J. Binger moved up to around 26,000 with the pot. The classic aces vs. kings showdown ended badly for some unfortunate player. Rick Troendly was all in against a player holding pocket aces with his pocket kings and spiked a miracle king on the river to take the pot and take over the chip lead at around 33,000.

The final count of players entering today’s event sits at 132. Not a horribly bad showing considering how other events have turned out this year. Going into the first break, Travis Erdman is the current chip leader with 36,000. Michael Binger is the top pro with around 26,000 in chips. None of the big names are in any real danger to their stack as it is still early.

Throughout the evening, theWSOPblog.com will bring you recaps from this event. Payout and number of players paid should be posted soon, so we will get that information to you once it’s posted. Stay tuned.
