Among those that cashed in this event were Eli Elezra, Allen Kessler, Jon Turner, Raymond Davis, Greg Mueller, and Ted Forrest. Day 2 was played down to the final eight players and those eight returned on Thursday to play to the final table and the bracelet.
The first person to bust on Day 3 was also the unfortunate final table bubble boy. Tad Jurgens was all-in pre-draw against Raphael Zimmerman. Zimmerman drew twice and stood pat on the last draw. Zimmerman then revealed a 7-6 and Jurgens could not beat it. Tad Jurgen finished in 8th place.
The final table was set for this event. Here are how the final seven players began final table play:
Seat 1: David Chiu – 200,000
Seat 2: Jameson Painter – 118,000
Seat 3: Leonard Martin – 124,000
Seat 4: Raphael Zimmerman – 565,000
Seat 5: Don McNamara – 486,000
Seat 6: Peter Gelencser – 526,000
Seat 7: Shunjiro Uchida – 167,000
Shunjiro Uchida was the first player eliminated from this final table. He was all-in after the first draw and called by Raphael Zimmerman. Uchida could only make a queen after three draws and Zimmerman tabled a 9-8 to send Uchida out in 7th place. He received $17,903 for his strong run.
Leonard Martin was soon all-in after the first draw against Peter Gelencser and Don McNamara. Peter Gelencser forced McNamara out of the pot to isolate Martin. Martin drew one on both the second and third draw while Gelencser drew one on the second draw and stood pat on the last. Martin could only make a pair of sevens while Gelencser made an 8-6 to eliminate Martin in 6th. Leonard Martin took home $24,723.
Jameson Painter was all-in after the first draw against Raphael Zimmerman. Painter drew two on the second draw while Zimmerman drew one. On the last draw, Zimmerman was pat and Painter drew one. Painter drew ace-high and Zimmerman a ten. Jameson Painter finished in 5th place and took home $34,843.
David Chiu was all-in pre-draw for 20,000 against Don McNamara who stood pat from the deal. Chiu drew cards on the first and second draws and stood pat on the last. Chiu showed a 8-7 but McNamara had him outpipped with an 8-6. David Chiu received $50,157 for his 4th place finish.
Don McNamara was all-in after the second draw against Peter Gelencser. McNamara has stood pat on the 2nd draw and Gelencser decided to draw one. Apparently he held a ten and was trying to improve. McNamara tabled a jack and when Gelencser looked at his card, he discovered that he had improved to a nine and Don McNamara was out in 3rd. He received $73,803 for his finish.
Heads-up play began with Raphael Zimmerman up 1.39 Million to the 730,000 of Peter Gelencser. Gelencser then made a comeback off of the strength of making a number one to take down a huge pot. Eventually he had the stacks reversed and held a 1.79 Million to 410,000 lead over Zimmerman. Then with the limits 30,000 and 60,000, Raphael Zimmerman was all-in after the second draw against Gelencser. Gelencser stood pat and held a 9-7. Zimmerman held 8-6-5-3 and drew one. However, he drew another six and Peter Gelencser is our champion. Raphael Zimmerman finished in 2nd place and took home $111,686.
Peter Gelencser is the champion of the $2,500 2-7 Lowball Event. He takes home the gold bracelet and $180,730. Congratulations.
