2010 WSOP Event #32 Recap – Jeffrey Papola Wins $5,000 Six-Handed NL Event
Event #31 of the 2010 World Series of Poker was the $5000 No Limit Hold’em/Six Handed event. Playing for a total prize pool of $2,669,600, 568 players registered for the event. Each was hoping for a shot at a coveted WSOP gold bracelet and the top prize money of $667,433.
By the end of day one however, the number of players was down to 116 who were left to fight it out to get a seat on the final table of six and those players were:
Jeffrey Papola 2,280,000
Erick Lindgren 1,827,000
Men ‘The Master’ Nguyen 1,570,000
Mark Radoja 1,140,000
Orlando De La Cruz 860,000
Bruno Launais 850,000
The first player to leave the final table was Erick Lindgren. Holding Qc-Qs, Lindgren called against an all-in bet from Men ‘The Master’ Nguyen who was holding Kd-Kc. The flop showed 4h-5h-2c and the turn was 6s. However the river 8d did nothing for Lindgren and his time in the tournament was over as Nguyen’s pair of Kings was enough to take the pot. He left in 6th position with prize money of $82,303.
5th place went to Orlando De La Cruz. Going all in on the big blind, De La Cruz was playing against Jeffrey Papola who had just won the side pot in a heads up against Mark Radoja. De La Cruz had Kh-7h in his hand while Papola had 9h-2d. However the flop 10c-3c-2s gave Papola a pair of deuces. The turn Ah was no good to either player and neither was the Qd which appeared on the river. So Papola took the pot with his pair and De La Cruz was out, picking up $117,595 in prize money along the way.
The next player to hit the rail was Bruno Launais who went all-in from the off and was instantly called by Mark Radoja. With Qh-4h in his hand Launais was slightly behind Radoja who held Ad-Kh. When the flop As-Qd-Js was turned over, Radoja now had strengthened his lead with a pair of Aces and a chance of a gunshot. The turn also favored Radoja when another Ace appeared (Ac). There was nothing the river could do for Launais and when the 9d was turned over, he was out of the game in 4th spot taking $173,123 with him.
With Qc-8c in his hand, Mark Radoja began betting against Jeffrey Papola. The flop of 5d-4c-9c encouraged Radoja to continue betting in the hopes of a flush. He was raised by Papola and then went all-in. Papola who was holding 10-c-9h called. An 8d on the turn gave Radoja a pair but this was behind Papola’s pair of nines and the river Kh did not help him so he was out and heading to the rail in 3rd place with $262,902 in his pocket. That meant heads up play was now to begin with Men ‘The Master’ Nguyen against Jeffrey Papola.
At the start of heads up play, Papola was out in front with his chip lead, but Nguyen fought hard and managed to creep in front at one point. However after almost four hours of heads up play, the final hand was played.
With Js-Jd in his hand, Papola raised to 320,000 and Nguyen decided to go all in with Ks-10s. Papola instantly called. The flop fell 7d-7s-5d and Papola had two pair. Nguyen was hoping for some help but didn’t get it from the turn which was 9h and the river Ah did not help either so Nguyen was eliminated from the game in 2nd place and picked up prize money of $412,746 which is not bad for three days work!
However congratulations must be paid to the winner of this event Jeffrey Papola who picked up his first World Series of Poker gold bracelet and a huge payout of $667,443.
