Day 2 saw 108 players return to try and make the money and ultimately the final table. Justin Bonomo, Phil Gordon, David Baker, and Rafe Furst were some that made the money in the event, but fell short of the final table. Former bracelet winner Dutch Boyd and Al “Sugar Bear” Barbieri headlined the final table of this event. Barbieri held the chip lead going in. Here is how the final six players started final table play.
Seat 1: Brian Meinders (157,000)
Seat 2: Dutch Boyd (543,000)
Seat 3: Al Barbieri (561,000)
Seat 4: Albert Minnullin (574,000)
Seat 5: Art Parmann (551,000)
Seat 6: Domenico Denotaristefani (485,000)
Al Barbieri started the final table as the chip leader, but after losing a few pots, wound up being the short stack. He was finally all-in after four-betting pre-flop against both Dutch Boyd and Brian Meinders. On a flop of 9-7-4, Meinders check-raised a bet from Boyd and Boyd three-bet. Meinders four-bet and Boyd called. Boyd then check-called bets on the turn 7d and the river 10s. At showdown, Meinders showed pocket fours for fours full, Boyd mucked, and Barbieri showed A-7 for trip sevens. Al Barbieri finished in 6th place, taking home $30,399.
Domenico Denotaristefani was all-in at the turn with the board showing Kh-2s-7d-4d. Albert Minnullin made the call with pocket jacks and Denotaristefani held A-4. The river fell a blank and Domenico Denotaristefani was out in 5th place, good for $43,117.
Art Parmann capped the betting pre-flop with Brian Meinders and then put his last 20,000 in dark before the flop fell Qc-5s-10d. When the cards were flipped, Parmann held K-J and Meinder K-10 for a flopped pair of tens. A deuce on the turn and eight on the river sent Parmann out in 4th place and $62,769.
Albert Minnullin was the third place finisher. After losing a big pot to Brian Meinders, Minnullin was all-in against Meinders with Q-8 against Meinders’ K-9 on a K-Q-10 flop. Meinders’ kings would hold and Albert Minnullin was out in 3rd place, good for $93,892.
Going into heads-up play, Brian Meinders held a dominating 2 Million to 870,000 chip lead for Boyd. Boyd did not give up and heads up play lasted for two hours between the two. The chip lead went back and forth before Boyd finally pulled away and had grinded Meinder down to just one big bet. That bet went in with Meinders holding A-8 against J-10 for Boyd. A flop of J-2-9 gave Boyd the lead with a pair of jack. The turn 7c gave him a straight draw as well. The river 8d gave Boyd the straight and his second career bracelet. Brian Meinders finished in 2nd place and took home $144,650.
Dutch Boyd is the Event #23 Champion. This is his 2nd WSOP gold bracelet. In addition to the bracelet, he took home $234,065 in prize money. Congratulations to Dutch Boyd, $2,500 Six-Handed Limit Holdem Champion.
