Event #55 of the 2010 World Series of Poker was the $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha World Championship event. This event saw a total of 346 players register and by the end of play on day one that number had been reduced to 171. Those players returned on day two and by the end of that day another 138 had been eliminated. So day three began with 33 players and the day was spent reducing this number to the final nine who began playing for the top prize on day four. The final table looked as follows:

Daniel Alaei - Event #55 Winner

Miguel Proulx 2,440,000

Ludovic Lacay 2,279,000

Daniel Alaei 1,800,000

Dmitry Stelmak 1,285,000

Matthew Wheat 745,000

Stephen Pierson 570,000

Ville Mattila 490,000

Trevor Uyesugi 435,000

Alexander Kravchenko 330,000

A raise to 100,000 from Matthew Wheat was called by Trevor Uyesugi from the blind. The flop Qh-9d-7d was tabled and Uyesugi checked. Wheat raised to 220,000 to which Uyesugi re-raised and Wheat called with the remainder of his chips. Uyesugi had As-Qd-Qs-8d and had a set of ladies along with a flush draw. Wheat had Qc-10d-6c-5d which gave him a pair of ladies and the chance for a straight draw and a lower flush. The 2h on the turn and 10c on the river meant that Uyesugi’s three of a kind gave him the pot and sent Wheat to the rail in 9th place with prize money of $65,568.

A raise to 110,000 from Ville Mattila saw Alexander Kravchenko going all-in from the big blind. Mattila called with Js-7c-6s-4s in his hand against the Ad-9s-8c-8h held by Kravchenko. The flop came Qd-10h-3s and Kravchenko kept the lead. The 7d on the turn gave Mattila a pair of sevens but Kravchenko’s pair of eights was still in front. But when 5h appeared on the river, Mattila had a straight and Kravcehnko was out with $85,180 for an 8th place finish.

Dmitry Stelmak raised to 175,000 and when Daniel Alaei went all-in, Stelmak answered by placing the remainder of his own chips in the pot. Stelmak had Ah-Kh-Qc-6s while Alaei had Ac-As-Qd-9h. The board ran out Jh-4d-8s-7h-2d and Alaei’s top pair meant that Stelmak was out as the 7th place finisher with prize money of $111,524.

Stephen Pierson found himself all in against Miguel Proulx before the flop with Ad-Jc-10d-5s in his hand. Proulx had Kd-Kh-4c-2s and was ahead with a pair of Kings. The board came 9s-7h-6s-Qs-10h and the Kings held by Proulx were enough to see off Pierson who took home a check for $147,138 for his 6th place spot.

Trevor Uyesugi was up against Daniel Alaei in a raising war from which he found himself all in. The cards were tabled with Alaei showing 7c-10d-Jc-Qs and Uyesugi having 4s-6d-7s-8h. The flop 10h-8d-4d gave Uyesugi two pair but when Kd came on the turn and then 10s on the river, Alaei had a set of tens and took the pot. Uyesugi finished in 5th place taking prize money of $195,631 with him.

Ludovic Lacay pushed all in pre-flop and was called by Daniel Alaei. So the cards were on their backs with Lacay showing Ks-Jh-9d-2s and Alaei with Ah-Kc-Qd-Js. The board came down Qc-2d-5c-10c-3h and Alaei had a pair of Queens sending Lacay to the rail with a paycheck for $262,208.

Mattila was all in pre-flop and Daniel Alaei was again covering the bet. Alaei had Ks-Kh-6h-2d and Mattila had Ah-Kd-7d-2c. So Alaei’s pair of Kings had him in front. The flop As-Jc-6c gave the lead to Mattila. But when Kc appeared on the turn, the lead was back with Alaei and when 10s appeared on the river, Mattila’s day was up. He took 3rd place along with a paycheck for $354,218.

Having dispensed with the 3rd, 4th and 5th finishers, Daniel Alaei did not take long to get rid of Miguel Proulx either. In fact in the very first hand of heads up play, the winner was decided. Neither player raised from the blinds and the flop came down 10s-9h-5c. A check from Proulx was met with a raise from Alaei to 250,000. This was called by Proulx. The turn saw 2c and Proulx checked but Alaei bet for 900,000. This was met by an all-in bet from Proulx and Alaei called. Alaei had 7s-6c-5s-5h while Proulx had Ac-Kh-10h-2h. Alaei had a set of fives and Proulx needed a ten or he was out. It never came on the river and when Jh appeared Proulx was eliminated in 2nd place with a payout of $482,265.

So the deserved winner of event #55 was Daniel Alaei. After outlasting 345 other players, he took home title of champion, a gold WSOP bracelet and prize money of $780,559. Congratulations Daniel Alaei!

Marcel Vonk - Event #54 Winner

David Peters 2,653,000

Marcel Vonk 2,253,000

Henrik Tollefsen 1,878,000

Nathan Jessen 990,000

Matthew Lupton 973,000

Dustin Dorrance-Bowman 794,000

Mehul Chaudhari 789,000

Paul Kerr 784,000

Espen Moen 443,000

Paul Kerr went all-in pre-flop after a bet of 66,000 from David Peters which was called by Henrik Tollefsen. Dustin Dorrance-Bowman decided to make the call after a long think while both Tollefsen and Peters folded their hands. So the two players turned over their cards with Dorrance-Bowman having 10h-10c and Kerr with Ah-Qd. When the flop came 5s-4c-As, the lead flipped to Kerr. The turn 9s and river 9s couldn’t put Dorrance-Bowman back in front and Kerr’s hand gave him the pot while Dorrance-Bowman had to settle for a 9th place finish and prize money of $45,286.

Next player out was Espen Moen who went all in and was called by David Peters. The cards were tabled and Moen had 3d-3h while Peters had 5c-5h. The board came 9d-As-10d-6c-Ah and Peter’s pair of fives was enough to eliminate Moen with an 8th place finish and a check for $59,020.

A double elimination saw two players leaving at once. After a raise to 100,000 from Marcel Vonk, Medhul Chaudhari went all in and was re-raised all in by Matthew Lupton. Vonk made the call and the cards were tabled:

Vonk – Qs-Qd

Lupton – Ad-Kh

Chaudhari – 4d-4s

The board ran out Jc-8s-10d-8c-6s and Vonk’s pair of ladies took the pot. Because Chaudhari had fewer chips than Lupton, he took 7th place with prize money of $77,633 and Lupton was 6th picking up a paycheck for $103,061.

The next elimination saw David going all-in pre-flop with Henrik Tollefsen making the call. The cards were tabled and Tollefsen showed As-Qh while Peters had Kh-10s. The flop 2s-10h-Jh gave Peters the lead with a pair of tens and when another ten appeared on the turn (10d), Tollefsen knew his time was up. The 7c on the river just confirmed that and he took 5th place and a paycheck for $138,107.

Nathan Jessen moved all in from the small blind after a raise to 150,000 from Marcel Vonk. Vonk made the call and turned over Ad-Jh. Jessen had Kc-Qh. The flop 10s-4s-9s gave nothing to either player and Vonk was still ahead with his Ace. The Ah on the turn gave Vonk a top pair and there was nothing the river 7h could do for Jessen so he became the 4th place finisher and netted $186,818 for his efforts.

The next elimination saw David Peters and Paul Kerr seeing the flop 5c-Js-9s without a raise. However once the flop was seen, Peters bet 115,000 and Kerr called. The turn Qc led to another bet from Peters of 270,000 to which Kerr went all-in and was called by Peters. Kerr’s hand was Jc-6c while Peters had Qs-9d. The 9c on the river gave Kerr a flush but Peter’s had one better with a full house and Kerr ended this event with a 3rd place finish taking a check for $255,076 with him.

That meant heads up play got underway between David Peters and Marcel Vonk with both players almost even in chips. The final hand came just over two and a half hours later. At one stage during heads up play Peters had taken a huge chip lead over Vonk but a couple of big hands for Vonk saw him take the lead back. The final hand saw Vonk go all-in with a huge chip lead and Peters called. The cards were tabled with Peter’s having Ks-8c and Vonk with Ah-3h. The flop gave both players a pair when 7d-Ac-8h appeared but Vonk was ahead with two Aces. The turn was 4s and the river was 9d and Peter’s was out with a runner up position and $350,803.

So the winner was Marcel Vonk who took home a WSOP gold bracelet and a staggering paycheck of $570,960. Congratulations to the winner of event #54 – Marcel Vonk!

Event #53 of the World Series of Poker was the $1,500 Limit Hold’em Shootout. The first day began with 548 players but that was down to just 64 by the end of day one. The final table would hold eight players and day two took care of eliminating 56 players from the event. The start of day three saw the eight players named as follows:

Brendan Taylor - Event #53 Winner

Ben Yu

Brendan Taylor

Brian Tate

Jonathan Little

Joseph McGowan

Michael Schneider

Sijbrand Maal

Terrence Chan

It took almost three and a half hours of play on day three before the first player was eliminated from the final table. After an opening raise from Jon Little, Terrence Chan re-raised to which Little four bet and then Chan made the call. The flop came 3c-Jh-8d and Chan found himself all-in with a pair of sevens (7c-7h). Little showed Ad-Ah and had the lead. As soon as Chan saw the Aces in Little’s hand, he left the table before the Qh on the turn and As on the river were revealed. His 8th place finish gave him a payout of $12,961.

A four bet from Brian Tate before the flop was called by Sijbrand Maal. The flop came 8d-10d-Ah and Tate bet again. Both players began raising and re-raising and then the turn came Qs. Tate bet again and Maal then went all-in. Tate called with Ac-Qc giving him two pair. Maal on the other hand had Qd-Jd and although he only had one pair of ladies, he was drawing for a flush. It didn’t come on the river and Maal was sent to the rail in 7th place with prize money of $17,215.

6th place went to Michael Schneider who with a short stack, went all-in pre-flop after a raise from Ben Yu on the button. Yu called and showed 7c-9h while Schneider had 3d-3h. The flop came Qh-Qs-9s and Yu had the lead. The turn Jc and river 5c were no help to Schneider and he was out taking $23,563 with him.

Brian Tate three bet from the small blind after a raise from Brendan Taylor. Taylor called and the flop came Jc-3h-9c. Tate bet again and Taylor called. After the turn 6h, Tate went all-in and Taylor called. Taylor had Jc-Qs and his pair of Jacks put him in front of Tate who had As-Qh. The only thing that could help Tate now was an Ace but the river disappointed with a 10s and Tate became the 5th place finisher with a paycheck for $33,276.

Next to go was Joseph McGowan who was up against Brendan Taylor with both men raising and re-raising before the flop 9s-2d-9d. Taylor bet again after the flop with McGowan raising and then Taylor calling. The turn 6h led to McGowan going all in with Ad-4d. Taylor had a pair of fives (5s-5h). McGowan got no help from the river 8c and took to the rail in 4th spot with prize money of $48,546.

Jonathan Little was all in before the flop against Brendan Taylor with As-Qc in his hand. Taylor had Qh-5h. The flop was better for Taylor when 5d-2c-Kd appeared. Little needed an Ace but it did not come on the turn Jh or the river 6c and he left the game in 3rd place with a check for $73,218.

So Brendan Taylor went head to head with Ben Yu for the top prize. Taylor was leading the chips by more than two to one and heads up play did not go on for longer than fifteen minutes before the final hand was played. Yu had all his chips in the pot before the flop and Taylor called. Taylor tabled Ad-7d while Yu had Ac-9h. The flop came Kc-7s-Jd and gave Taylor a pair of sevens. The turn 4s and river 4c did not help Yu and he was eliminated in 2nd position taking $114,484 in prize money with him.

So Brendan Taylor became the winner of event #53 having outlasted 547 other players to claim the top prize of a coveted gold bracelet and prize money of $184,950. So congratulations to Brendan Taylor!

Event #52 of the 2010 World Series of Poker was the $25,000 No Limit Hold’em Six Handed Event. The high buy in meant that numbers would not be too high and only 191 players registered with 122 of them eliminated during the first day of play. The 69 remaining players was further whittled down to just 18 for the start of day three and those 18 had to be reduced to six for the final table. Day three finished when the final table of six was reached and play began again on a fourth day where the winner would be found. The final table of six looked as follows:

Dan Kelly - Event #52 Winner

Dan Kelly 5,895,000

Frank Kassela 2,610,000

Shawn Buchanan 2,110,000

Jason Somerville 1,665,000

Mikael Thuritz 1,535,000

Eugene Katchalov 475,000

Not surprisingly, Eugene Katchalov was the first player to leave the final table. His small stack meant that it was inevitable that it would not be long before he was all in. This happened in a hand against Dan Kelly pre-flop. Katchalov had a pair of sixes (6d-6c) while Kelly had Qd-Js. The flop came Qs-4c-3s allowing Kelly to take the lead with a pair of ladies. The Jh on the turn further strengthened Kelly’s position and the 4s on the river sent Katchalov to the rail in 6th place with prize money of $194,559.

A pre-flop raise of 125,000 from Dan Kelly saw calls from Mikael Thuritz on the button and Jason Somerville from the big blind. The flop came 9c-4h-Jh and both Somerville and Kelly checked. However Thuritz decided to place a bet for 220,000 to which Somerville folded. Kelly decided to raise to 600,000 to which Thuritz’s answer was to go all-in. Kelly called with 5h-6h in his hand. Thuritz had As-Js. The 7c on the turn gave Kelly more outs but when the river produced another heart (8h), Kelly had the flush and Thuritz was out with a 5th place finish taking $272,084 with him.

Jason Somerville moved all in after an opening bet of 140,000 from Frank Kassela. Shawn Buchanan re-raised all in and Kassela folded his hand. Somerville had As-Jh while Buchanan was holding Ad-Ac. The board ran out Kc-5c-4d-5h-Kh and Buchanan held strong. Somerville took the 4th place spot and a whopping paycheck of $386,125 to go along with it.

With a completion from Shawn Buchanan from the small blind, Frank Kassela checked from the big blind and the flop came Qd-4c-3h. Buchanan checked, Kassela bet 80,000 and then Buchanan raised to 260,000. Kassela re-raised to 710,000 to which Buchanan called. The turn saw 10d and this was checked by Buchanan but Kassela bet 1,000,000 and this was followed by an all-in from Buchanan. Kassela called and revealed Qc-3d. Buchanan had 5h-6c. Although Kassela had two pair, Buchanan had an open ended straight draw. The river was made for Buchanan when 2s appeared and it sent Kassela out of the game in 3rd place with prize money of $556,053.

Heads up play was between Dan Kelly and Shawn Buchanan with Buchanan slightly ahead in chips. However Kelly fought back and soon took the lead. The final hand saw an opening bet of 200,000 from Dan Kelly from the button which was met by a raise to 650,000 from Buchanan after which a four bet to 1,425,000 was made by Kelly. Buchanan then moved all-in and this was called by Kelly. Their cards were revealed with Buchanan holding a pair of Jacks (Js-Jd) and Kelly having Ac-10d. The flop came down 6s-4s-3d and kept Buchanan out in front. The 5h on the turn gave Kelly some outs for a draw but when the Ad appeared on the river, the tables had turned and Kelly’s pair bested Buchanan’s. So Buchanan was eliminated from the game in 2nd place. He picked up a staggering $812,941 for his efforts.

But the winner of event #52 was Dan Kelly who not only picked up his first ever WSOP gold bracelet, he also picked up prize money of $1,315,518. Not bad for a twenty one year old. So congratulations to the champ of event #52 – Dan Kelly!

Jon Eaton 1,933,000

Ryan Welch 1,500,000

Guillaume Darcourt 1,403,000

Will Failla 1,300,000

Sergey Lebedev 724,000

Bradley Craig 633,000

Tommy Vedes 597,000

Noel Scruggs 416,000

Tad Jurgens 268,000

A double elimination saw the 9th and 8th places decided. Tad Jurgens went all-in from middle position and Noel Scruggs decided to re-raise all-in. This folded around to the small blind where Guillaume Darcourt made the call with a pair of sevens (7h-7d) in his hand. Jurgens had a pair of ladies (Qc-Qd) and Scruggs had As-Qh. With Jurgens in front he was devastated to see another seven appear on the flop 7s-3s-9d. This instantly put Darcourt in front and the 2c on the turn followed by 4s on the river could not help either of the other players and they were eliminated one by one. With Jurgens having the fewer number of chips, he was out in 9th place with prize money of $41,842 and Scruggs took 8th spot along with prize money of $53,694.

Not long after losing two players in one hand, another player was sent to the rail. This time it was Tommy Vedes who re-raised a bet from Sergey Lebedev to go all-in. Lebedev had a pair of eights and decided to make the call. Vedes had Ad-9d but got no help from the board 5h-5d-3c-5s-Jc. Lebedev paired his two eights with the set of threes on the board for a full house and Vedes hit the rail in 7th place taking $69,647 with him.

The next elimination saw Sergey Lebedev going all-in pre-flop with Ac-Jc. This was called by Guillaume Darcourt who had Ad-Ks. The board ran out 10c-10d-9h-10s-Kh giving Darcourt a full house and sending Lebedev crashing to the rail with a 6th place finish and prize money of $91,407.

The very next hand saw another player eliminated. An all-in bet from Bradley Craig with Ah-8s in his hand was met by a call from Guillaume Darcourt who had a pair of nines (9c-9d). The flop came 8c-4d-Jd. Although Darcourt was still ahead, Craig now had a pair and was still in the hand. However 6s appeared on the turn followed by 7h on the river and Darcourt took the hand while Craig took his leave. But not before collecting a nice check for $121,451 for his 5th place finish.

Will Failla moved all in before the flop and found Ryan Welch all in beside him. Failla had Ad-7s while Welch had As-Jc. The board ran out Qh-Ks-2h-5s-6d and gave neither player anything but Welch had the upper hand and Failla was eliminated in 4th spot with prize money of $163,532.

With Guillaume Darcourt opening to 125,000 from the small blind, he was called by Jon Eaton from the big blind. The flop came 6c-9h-5c and Darcourt placed another bet this time for 195,000 which was met by a raise to 600,000 from Eaton. Darcourt’s response was to go all-in and this was called by Eaton who had 4c-7c in his hand giving him a couple of draws. Darcourt had 6d-8s which gave him a pair of sixes. The 8c on the turn gave Eaton his straight flush and Darcourt knew his game was up. His 3rd place finish meant he took home prize money of $223,459.

So heads up play began between Ryan Welch and Jon Eaton and the end came after only two hours. A pre-flop raise from Welch was answered by a call from Eaton. Both players checked after the flop 9c-7s-6c but when the turn 10d came, Eaton bet for 225,000 and Welch made the call. The Kd on the river saw Eaton place a bet for 525,000 and this was met by an all-in bet from Welch. After a long think, Eaton decided to call and was met instantly by Welch’s cards Qh-Jd which gave him a straight. Eaton was eliminated in 2nd place and picked up a cool $344,830 in prize money.

So we had another first time gold bracelet winner in Ryan Welch. On top of that he was named champion of event #51 and picked up a staggering $559,371 in prize money. Congratulations Ryan Welch!

Event #50 of the 2010 World Series of Poker was the $5,000 Pot Limit Omaha event which saw 460 entrants all playing for a chance to win the top prize payout of $508,090 and a coveted gold bracelet. When play finished on day one there were 207 players left heading into day two. By the start of day three however, that number had dropped to 31 and the final table of nine was revealed after almost six and a half hours of play and looked as follows:

Chance Kornuth - Event #50 Winner

Scott Mandel 1,211,000

Danny Smith 1,069,000

Chance Kornuth 896,000

Kevin Boudreau 854,000

Edward Martin 791,000

Eric Liu 771,000

Robert Mizrachi 711,000

Jose Nacho Barbero 328,000

Julian Gardner 266,000

The first elimination saw pre-flop betting which led to Jose ‘Nacho’ Barbero going all-in and this was called immediately by Danny Smith. Barbero had Ad-Kc-Jh-8d while Smith had Ah-As-Qc-8c. The flop Ac-8h-6h gave Smith a set of Aces and when 4c on the turn was followed by 6c on the river, Smith had a full house and Barbero had a 9th place finish for which he earned $40,364.

After a flop of 3d-7d-Js, betting commenced between Robert Mizrachi and Scott Mandel with both of them going all-in. Mandel had Jc-7s-4s-4c giving him two pair while Mizrachi had Ac-Ad-Jd-10d which gave him a top pair and a draw for a flush. The Kc on the turn gave Mizrachi some more outs but the 5h on the river was not one of them and he left the game with $52,471 for his 8th place finish.

Eric Liu was the next player eliminated. After a 60,000 bet from Chance Kornuth, he raised to 225,000 which Kornuth duly called. The flop Ah-10s-7h saw Kornuth going all in and this was swiftly followed by a call from Liu. Kornuth was holding Qh-Jc-10d-2h while Liu had Ac-As-Qd-2s. This meant Liu was in front with top pair while Kornuth had some draws for a flush and a straight. When Ks appeared on the turn, Kornuth had his straight but Liu only needed another spade for a nut flush. However he could not be saved when 9d appeared on the river. Liu’s 7th place finish saw him walk away with $68,902 in prize money.

After a raise from Chance Kornuth pre-flop, Julian Gardner called and the flop was revealed 9h-Jc-6c. This was checked by Gardner but a bet for 85,000 from Kornuth saw Gardner going all in. Kornuth called with Kd-9c-Jd-7c in his hand. Gardner’s cards were revealed as 7h-4s-6s-8s. When the turn saw Kc Kornuth had a flush and Gardner looked to be on the way out. 10d on the river confirmed this and he left the competition as the 6th place finisher with prize money of $91,387.

5th place went to Scott Mandel who was up against Chance Kornuth before the flop which came Kh-Js-3c. This was checked by Mandel and then Kornuth and the turn showed 8d after which Mandel found all his chips in the pot. Mandel’s hand was 3s-3d-9d-5s giving him a set of threes while Kornuth had 8s-8c-6c-4s for a set of eights. When 7c was rivered, Mandel was sent to the rail with a paycheck for $122,455.

A pre-flop raise of 280,000 from Chance Kornuth saw Ted Martin going all in and this was called by Kornuth and Kevin Boudreau. The flop 6s-10s-2c saw Boudreau following Martin all in and Kornuth made the call. The hands looked as follows:

Boudreau – 7c-2s-Ah-8s (giving him a flush draw)

Martin – 6c-Js-Ad-Kc (giving him a pair of sixes)

Kornuth – 7c-2s-Ah-8s (giving him a pair of deuces and a straight draw)

The 9s on the turn gave Boudreau his flush and Ted Martin was out of the game as the 4c on the river could not help him. However, he took $165,825 with him for finishing in 4th spot.

Danny Smith placed a pot bet from the button and was then put all in by Kevin Boudreau from the big blind. Smith had Jd-Qs-8h-Ac while Boudreau had 7s-3s-Ah-Ks. The board ran out 9d-3d-6h-Qh-Kh and gave Boudreau the hand with two pair. So 3rd place went to Danny Smith and netted him prize money of $226,923.

So heads up play began between Kevin Boudreau and Chance Kornuth and within half an hour we had our winner. Both players were betting big before the flop 2h-8c-Jd and were all in after it came down. Kornuth had 6h-Qc-8h-9d and Boudreau had Kc-Kh-4s-As which put him ahead with his pair of Kings. But when 8s came on the turn, the lead flipped to Kornuth who now had a set of eights. The 3c on the river was inconsequential and Boudreau was eliminated in 2nd place but took home a paycheck for $313,792.

In his second ever WSOP cash, Chance Kornuth beat 459 other players to claim the top prize of $508,090 and take home a gold bracelet and title of champion. Congratulations Chance Kornuth – winner of event #50!

Michael Linn - Event #49 Winner

Taylor Larkin 2,685,000

Mihai Manole 1,812,000

Chadwick Grimes 1,665,000

Tyler Cornell 1,063,000

Michael Linn 1,037,000

Justin Zaki 1,018,000

Erle Mankin 654,000

Benjamin Smith 620,000

Alexander Kuzmin 483,000

Tyler Cornell was the first player eliminated from the final table. When he raised to 80,000 from the button he was called by Justin Zaki and Chadwick Grimes. The flop 6c-5h-9s saw Cornell going all-in and this was called by both Grimes and Zaki. The turn was Qh and the river was 3d. Zaki mucked his hand but Cornell revealed Js-9s giving him a pair of nines while Grimes revealed Ks-Qs giving him the hand with his two ladies. That meant Cornell was out in 9th spot with $45,247.

In the next elimination Erle Mankin found himself all-in with Ad-Jh against Taylor Larkin who had Ah-Kd. The flop 2d-10d-Kh gave Larkin a pair of Kings but offered some outs for Mankin. However with the 8c on the turn and the 10h on the river, Mankin was out in 8th spot with a paycheck for $59,082.

After an opening bet of 100,000 from Mihai Manole, Justin Zaki pushed all-in and was called immediately by Manole. Zaki had 6c-5h and Manole had Ad-Ac. The flop gave Manole a set when 8s-As-9d were turned over but Zaki could best him if he found a seven on either the turn or the river. However when 9h appeared on the turn, Manole had a full house and not even a seven could save Zaki. The river was Kh and confirmed Zaki’s exit in 7th place. However he did pick up $78,067 for his troubles.

An all-in bet from Alexander Kuzmin from the button was called by Taylor Larkin from the big blind. Larkin had a pair of Jacks (Jh-Jc) while Kuzmin was behind with Ah-Qh. The board ran out 2d-8h-3s-6c-10s and the Jacks were enough to say farewell to Kuzmin who took 6th place and a check for $104,364.

After a bet of 100,000 from Taylor Larkin, Chadwick Grimes called from the big blind. The flop saw 4s-Ad-3d appear and the turn was Jd. When the river showed 4d, Grimes went all in and Larkin made the call. Larkin showed Qd-10d and this gave him a flush which sent Grimes packing. He netted $141,235 for his 5th place finisher.

Next out was Benjamin Smith who went all-in against Michael Linn. Smith’s As-4h was up against the pair of eights (8h-8s) that Linn was holding. The board ran out 5d-10d-Qd-Jd-8c and Linn now had a set. So that was the end for Smith in this competition but he pocketed $193,418 as the 4th place finisher.

3rd place went to Mihai Manole after he pushed all in from the button and Michael Linn decided to make the call. Linn had As-9h while Manole had a pair of deuces (2c-2h). The flop Ac-Jh-4d put Linn ahead with a pair of Aces and left Manole needing another deuce. It did not appear on the turn 5d and the river let him down too when Kh was revealed. So Manole bowed out taking prize money of $268,189 with him.

That left Michael Linn and Taylor Larkin to fight it out for the gold bracelet. And it took a little over an hour for the winner to be decided. The chips were all in and Larkin had Qh-Js to Linn’s Ad-2c. The flop 6c-10d-2s gave a pair to Linn and the turn 7d and river 4h couldn’t help Larkin who became the runner up in Event #49 with a paycheck for $378,905.

But it was Michael Linn who became the winner of Event #49 and picked up his first ever WSOP gold bracelet along with a check for $609,493. Not bad for three days work! Well done Michael Linn!

Sigurd Eskeland - Event #48 Winner

Steve Sung 900,000

Nikolai Yakovenko 575,000

Stephen Su 544,000

Alexander Wice 360,000

Sigurd Eskeland 346,000

Scott Seiver 229,000

Jared Jaffee 210,000

Kirill Rabtsov 125,000

Kirill Rabtsov was trailing at the bottom of the leader board and was the first to leave the final table in a hand of 2-7 Triple Draw. After a raise from Scott Seiver, he three bet which was called by Seiver and they both took a card. They continued to bet and after the second draw Rabtsov was all in. Seiver had 2-3-4-7-8 while Rabtsov had 2-4-6-7-4 and his pair of fours meant he could not beat Seiver. Rabtsov was out in 8th place and went to the rail with prize money of $23,223.

Minutes later the 7th place finisher was decided. Nikolai Yakovenko, Steve Sung and Jared Jaffee were involved in a betting and raising war before the first cards were drawn. After Sung and Yakovenko each took a card and Jaffee took two, the betting began again with all players involved until Yakovenko placed a three bet. Sung then folded but Jaffee called and was all-in. Yakovenko was happy with the cards he had while Jaffee took another two and ended up with 6-5-3-2-10. Yakovenko had 8-7-5-3-2 and this gave him the hand and sent Jaffee crashing out in 7th position taking $30,319 with him.

In a hand of Omaha-8, Scott Seiver was all in pre-flop and was playing against Steve Sung. Seiver had Ac-Ah-Kd-6s while Sung had Ad-Jc-8d-3h. The flop Qs-4h-3s kept Seiver out in front with his pair of Aces. When the 6c appeared on the turn, it gave Sung a low but Seiver held on to the high. However the Jd on the river gave Sung two pair besting Seiver’s Aces and as Sung already had the low, Seiver was out in 6th place with prize money of $40,175.

Stephen Su found himself all-in against Steve Sung before the flop was revealed. Su had Kh-Kd-8d-6c while Sung was holding As-Qh-9d-6h. Su was in front but the flop Jh-8h-5s gave Sung the potential for a flush. The turn was 9c but the flush came for Sung on the river when 2h appeared and this was enough to send Su to the rail in 5th place with a paycheck for $54,032.

Nikolai Yakavenko and Steve Sung began a betting war before the flop in a hand of Limit Hold’em which ended up with Yakovenko pushing all his chips into the pot. Sung had a pair of tens (10s-10h) while Yakovenko had Ac-6h. The flop 4s-4h-3h kept Sung in front but the 6h on the turn gave Yakovenko some outs. However the 8d on the river was what he needed and he was out in 4th spot taking a check for $73,776 with him.

The next elimination came in a hand of 2-7 Triple Draw and all three players were involved in a ton of betting first round which led to Alexander Wice having all his remaining chips in the pot. After each player took one card, Steve Sung and Sigurd Eskeland both checked. The three players all went for one card on the second draw and after a bet from Sung, Eskeland check called. Both Sung and Eskeland took another card on the final draw but Wice did not. Eskeland bet but Sung decided to fold. Eskeland had 2-3-4-6-7 while Wice could not beat him with his 2-4-6-7-8 and he became the 3rd place finisher and took home prize money of $102,314.

Heads up play between Sigurd Eskeland and Steve Sung lasted for over an hour and the final hand was No Limit Hold’em. Before the flop, Eskeland was all in and this was instantly called by Sung who was holding a pair of ladies (Qd-Qs). Eskeland had Ac-9s. the flop 3d-9c-4c gave Eskeland a pair but he was still behind Sung. However on the turn Jc appeared and this meant Eskeland was drawing for a flush which duly came on the river when 2c appeared. So from behind, Eskeland had the hand and Sung had to settle for 2nd place. He took home a paycheck for $160,952.

So the winner of Event #48 was Sigurd Eskeland who became the proud owner of his first World Series of Poker gold bracelet and took home a check for $260,497. Congratulations Sigurd Eskeland!

Shawn Busse - Event #47 Winner

Adam White 1,685,000

Allan Baekke 1,633,000

Shawn Busse 1,203.000

Owen Crowe 1,192,000

Ilya Andreev 985,000

Chuan Shi 894,000

Jason Mann 893,000

Pekka Ikonen 626,000

Wenlong Jin 292,000

The first player to leave was the chip leader Adam White. He moved all-in against Owen Crowe pre-flop and was called by Crowe. White had Kd-Jc while Crowe had 5c-9c. The flop showed 7d-6s-2s and while White was ahead, Crowe was looking at a number of outs. The turn of 4h offered Crowe some more outs but it was another nine on the river 9h, which gave him a pair and saw White eliminated in 9th place picking up $36,287 along the way.

Allan Baekke went all-in from the small blind and was called by Shawn Busse from the big blind. Baekke had Kh-Jh and Busse had two sevens (7h-7c). The board ran out 6s-Qd-2h-Qh-6c giving Busse two pair and sending Baekke to the rail in 8th place with prize money of $47,379.

After a raise of 90,000 from Owen Crowe, Jason Mann went all in from the big blind. Crowe who had Ac-Kd, called and Mann revealed Kc-Qh. So Crowe was ahead and the board ran out 4s-8s-2d-3h-6s. Nothing on the board changed the positions so Mann was out with a 7th place finish but picked up a paycheck for $62,553 for his efforts.

The next player eliminated was Ilya Andreev who moved all in pre-flop. He was called by Shawn Busse who had a pair of Aces. Andreev on the other hand had Qd-Jh and the board was no help when 5h-7d-6s-Qc-8c was revealed giving him only a pair of ladies which was not enough to save himself from elimination in 6th place. His consolation prize however, was $83,498.

Wenlong Jin was next to go after calling an all-in bet from Pekka Ikonen with the last of his remaining chips. Ikonen was holding 9c-7c while Jin had 8c-6h. The flop was As-Ad-Jh and neither hand was helped by this. The turn did nothing either when 5c appeared by when 9h was rivered, Ikonen had a pair and Jin was out with $112,720 for a 5th place finish.

A raise from Pekka Ikonen of 140,000 chips saw Chuan Shi move in with a raise to 350,000. This was answered by an all-in bet from Owen Crowe and Ikonen decided to fold his hand. But Shi went for the call with a pair of eights in his hand (8s-8c). Owen had the lead with a pair of Jacks (Js-Jh). The flop gave both players another pair (4h-2d-3c) and the turn 5s and river Ad did nothing for either player so Crowe’s Jacks were enough to eliminate Shi in 4th spot with prize money of $153,935.

Shawn Busse had raised to 185,000 from the off and this was re-raised by Owen Crowe to 500,000. When Pekka Ikonen answered by going all-in, Busse folded but Owen made the call. Owen had Ad-4d while Ikonen had Qs-Jh. The flop 6c-3h-4h gave Owen a pair and the 2h on the turn saw Ikonen drawing for a flush. However the river was unkind to Ikonen when another 2 appeared (2s), giving Crowe two pair and sending Ikonen to the rail in 3rd position but not before he picked up a paycheck for $212,600 for his troubles.

So heads up play began between Shawn Busse and Owen Crowe with Crowe ahead having almost double the number of chips. It did not take long for us to have a winner when around an hour later, the final hand was played. Crowe moved all-in before the flop and Busse made the call with Ah-4s in his hand. Crowe had 5h-3h. The flop 7s-7d-3d gave Crowe two pair. However the 6h on the turn and 6s on the river gave both players the same two pair and Busse was the winner with an Ace kicker. So Crowe was out in 2nd place but picked up prize money of $300,494 which must have went some way to consoling him.

But the winner of event #47 was Shawn Busse who took home his first ever WSOP gold bracelet and a huge paycheck of $485,791. Congratulations Shawn!

The 46th event of the 2010 World Series of Poker was the $5,000 Pot Limit Omaha Hi-Low Split 8 or Better event. 284 players registered for the event making the top prize $327,040. Of the 284 players who started, only 130 remained at the end of the day. Day two saw that number whittled down to 21 for the start of day three and after almost five hours of play on the third day we had our final table of nine which looked as follows:

Chris Bell - Event #46 Winner

Dan Shak

Leif Force

Erik Seidel

Chris Bell

Joe Ritzie

Dave Ulliott

Perry Green

Jeremy Harkin

Rob Hollink

The first elimination saw Jeremy Harkin going all in from the big blind after a bet of 70,000 from Chris Bell. Bell called and the players hands were revealed. Bell had Ad-4h-6s-3c while Harkin had 10s-As-5s-Qh. The board ran out Jh-4d-4c-7d-5d and Bell had the low and a straight to take the hand. Harkin left in 9th place with $29,886 in prize money.

Erik Seidel had limped on the small blind and was checked by Perry Green on the big blind so the flop was revealed 10d-Qh-Ah. Seidel placed a bet for 45,000 and was called by Green. The turn saw 9h appear and Seidel checked. But Green went all in and Seidel checked. Seidel had Jh-8h-Ac-Jc giving him a flush, while Green had Js-Jd-4h-6h which also gave him a flush but a smaller one. The 4s on the river was irrelevant and so Green took his 8th place finish and a paycheck for $38,549.

Joe Ritzie opened with a bet of 70,000 pre-flop and this was called by Rob Hollink. The flop was revealed 9s-7h-2h after which Hollink moved all-in. He was called by Ritzie who had Ac-3h-4c-7c in his hand, which gave him two sevens and a draw for the nut low. Hollink on the other hand had As-Kh-6s-4s and put him behind. The turn gave the nut low to Ritzie when 8d appeared and the river 9h did nothing for Hollink but send him to the rail in 7th place but not before he picked up a check for $50,014.

With Dan Shak opening for 100,000, he was called by Leif Force from the big blind. The flop 9s-Qd-3c was checked by Force but Shak went in with a bet for 150,000. This was met by a check raise from Force for 200,000 which put him all-in and this was duly called by Shak. Force had Ah-7d-9h-Ks which gave him a draw for the A-7 low and a pair of nines. Shak had Kh-Kd-2d-5h which gave him the higher pair and a 2-5 low draw. The Kc on the turn gave Shak a set of threes and when the 5d appeared on the river, Force was out as the 6th place finisher and picked up $65,311 for his efforts.

Erik Seidel found himself all-in pre-flop against Joe Ritzie. Seidel had 5s-4s-Jd-Ac while Ritzie had Ad-2c-6h-Qh. The board ran out 4c-Ks-7s-Kc-Qc. So the flush that Seidel had been hoping for never appeared and he did not have the low either. But with two pair, Ritzie took the hand and sent Seidel to the rail in 5th spot with prize money of $85,800.

Joe Ritzie was all in pre-flop again as he had been for a number of hands and this time he was up against Dan Shak who had Ac-2d-8h-Jh in his hand. Ritzie had 2h-3c-9h-10s. The flop 7h-6h-Jc put Shak in front with the high and the low but offered some outs to Ritzie. Unfortunately these outs never materialized when 5c on the turn and 7s on the river were revealed. Ritzie took the 4th place with prize money of $113,444.

3rd place went to Dave ‘Devilfish’ Ulliott. He was up against Chris Bell pre-flop. The flop Jd-Qd-3c appeared and Devilfish bet pot for 300,000. This was called by Bell and after the turn 2h, Bell decided to go all in and was called by Devilfish. Bell’s hand was 8d-Ah-Qh-4h and Devilfish had Ad-10d-5c-3h. At the moment Bell was in front with the higher pair and a better low draw. The 7h on the river didn’t help Devilfish and he was sent to the rail with prize money of $150,925.

So the final two players were Chris Bell and Dan Shak and it was time for heads up play which lasted for around three and a half hours before the final hand was played. Bell limped the button and Shak checked on the big blind. The flop 8h-Kc-2h was checked by Shak but Bell bet 100,000 and this was then raised by Shak to 460,000. Bell called and the turn was revealed Kh. This led to Shak betting pot and then Bell going all in which was called by Shak. Shak had Ah-9h-8s-7s which gave him a nut flush and a draw for a low. However Bell had a full house with Ks-10c-9s-8d. Shak needed some help from the river to chop the pot but it was no good when 9c appeared and finally saw a winner emerge. Shak was out in 2nd place but took home $202,142 in prize money.

But for Chris Bell, the prize was a first WSOP gold bracelet, the title of champion and a huge paycheck for $327,040. Congratulations to Chris Bell!
