WSOP Bracelet
Listen to poker players talk about the WSOP and pretty soon you’ll hear someone talking about winning a bracelet, which at first sounds pretty strange coming out of the mouths of poker players and gambling aficionados. It’s easy to understand the desire of players to win a WSOP and take home lots of money, but what’s up with the obsession about winning a WSOP bracelet?
Prestige, plain and simple. The World Series of Poker is still viewed as poker’s premier event, and the world championships of poker. While winning other tournaments on the World Poker Tour or European Poker Tour might pay out more prize money than some smaller WSOP events, they fall way short in the prestige category when compared to WSOP events.
The first bracelets were given out to WSOP event winners in 1970 and they quickly became a status symbol in the world of poker, only going to players lucky and skilled enough to win a WSOP event. Win a WSOP bracelet and you join the pantheon of poker greats that include Phil Hellmuth (who has 11 bracelets, the most all-time), Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan, and other poker greats.
If you’re looking to win a bracelet of your own, be sure to check the 2008 WSOP schedule, as the World Series of Poker will be here before you know it.
