On My Way to the WSOP
I am currently writing from my hotel room in Amarillo, TX as I am on my way to Las Vegas for the 2009 WSOP. As I have stated for months, my intent is to hear out and play two to four events as well as some other events around the country.
So far the trip has been relatively uneventful except for some horrid driving conditions in Oklahoma. The hotel I am writing from looks as if it was built back when Johnny Moss was winning Main Event’s. It is very possible it might. However, the rate was cheap and it has free wi-fi.
Regarding the WSOP, as things stand at present the events that are sure fired locks are the “Stimulus” event and the $1,500 Limit Holdem. I decided to take the plunge and play my first ever NL event in 4 years of going to the Series. Two things draw me to this event. First, the event is likely to have the largest non-Main Event field in the history of the WSOP and in the history of poker. I like to make history, so I was all for that. Next, if they get the numbers they expect, the payday will be around $1 Million. $1,000 for a shot at a Million? I will take my shot.
The Limit Holdem event is just a given for me. If I am playing at the WSOP, I have to play the event I have the best chance to do well in. However, with my success in H.O.R.S.E. in recent months, I am strongly considering the $1,500 H.O.R.S.E.
Action will kick off on the 26th as satellites and non-bracelet daily tourneys kick off. I will head over and check out the satellite action and hopefully get some pics of the area before all the crazies come in over the next couple of days.
I will keep you posted on how things go. Now I think I will get some sleep. Hopefully the reviews I just read about this hotel having bedbugs is an exaggeration.
