If there are naturals on the poker circuit then surely Jeff Madsen is one of them. He came to age with Poker! Born in 1985 in Santa Monica, Callifornia, Madsen has the distinction of being the youngest Poker player to win a Word Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet. He won the title barely a month and nine days after his 21st birthday. Within the next week he topped off that performance with a second event becoming the youngest player to win two WSOP bracelets!

Madsen chanced upon Poker as an 18-year-old with a friend after graduating from Palisades Charter High School. Soon Poker became a hobby and with encouragement from his mother Harriet, Madsen build a Poker library of sorts at home. He spent considerable time studying the best books on the game and honing his skills. But Poker as a professional pursuit was still not on his mind. He also didn’t play on the Internet. Madsen decided to study films at the University of California-Santa Barbara. At the Chumash Casino, in Santa Barbara, you can play if you are 18 and Madsen turned to cash games during his free time.

Madsen won two tournaments at the casino too picking up $4,000. After this success, his parents felt inclined to pay his entree fee for WSOP events and Madsen was heading in the right direction. In 2006, Madsen decided to enter for six events of the WSOP. He needed $10,000. His parents gave him $3,500 and he used his college fun set up by his grandfather for the rest of the entry fee. That $10,000 became $1.4 million in a week’s time!

Madsen’s parents view him as a sportsperson who likes the strategy of the game and don’t bother too much with the gambler epithet. Madsen is one of those players who you can trust to study hard at the game and top it up with tremendous natural talent. Obviously a diligent student, Madsen now has two WSOP bracelets to his name as well as two other final table finishes.

Madsen is also known for extremely aggressive play. You can expect that from a player who has studied strategy and knows that he is on solid ground. Madsen has often told the media that people underestimate him because of his age.

Madsen is absolutely difficult to intimidate himself. He is also good at reading fellow players and fantastic at mathematics. That certainly gives him an edge over most other online poker professionals. Madsen says he can understand people’s body language better because he studied films. As part of his college work he had to watch several films and they had a range of emotions being expressed in innumerable ways.

Madsen is already a star but none of his success has gone to his head. He still hopes to go back to college to complete his senior year. On the whole though, Madsen asserts that he intends to play Poker as a second profession. As a first choice he would still like to direct and write films.
