2008 Coming to a Close
2008 is nearly concluded and it’s now time to start contemplating the upcoming year. For many, this means some type of New Year’s Resolution that many people won’t follow a week after they make it. Personally, I have a running resolution that the next year will be better than the prior year in some way. I have been fortunate to be able to keep this type of resolution for many years and it will probably be my running resolution for life.
So how will you improve the upcoming year? What will you do to improve your poker game? What will you do to improve your lifestyle or the lives of those around you?
Personally, the main goal that I am going to be working on this year is to try and get healthier. I need to drop a decent amount of weight and I will be working on that this year. A personal trainer will be employed to assist as I really need structure in most things that I do to really improve.
Next, I will be taking up a musical instrument. I have always enjoyed the piano and a close friend of mine gave me a lesson. Now, I am going to actually hire a tutor to assist. That should be a lot of fun.
Poker wise, I will be working on both my game and my writing. First, I will actually setup a structured schedule for my work to go along with certain other things in my life. Of course, the structured work schedule will probably end up becoming flexible again as my life is always chaotic. In regards to poker, I am going to start focusing a little more on playing online. I personally prefer to play live poker, but I do see this as being another year where I take a relatively few trips that will be solely poker related. The fact I am working on my weight etc will actually interfere.
For those of you reading this, take the time to take stock of the things in your life, both personally and in poker. Take note of what is really important and make positive changes to help make your life and your game better. Also remember, your friends and family are important too. Make time for them. While making money in poker is great, it means nothing if you don’t have anyone to share the money with.
Also, be careful as you party this New Years. Obviously don’t drink and drive. Keep safe. I look forward to having all of you continue to read this blog and the articles on this site for the upcoming year. Your readership is appreciated.
Good luck at the tables, and in life in 2009.
